Until his death a few years ago, Mr. Bowen was a leading Genesee County attorney. He was born September 28, 1831, at Shelby, Orleans County, son of Abiel and Anna S. Crane Bowen. His ances- tral line dated back to the Sterl- ings of Sterling Castle, Scotland. His paternal grandfather fought in the Revolution and in the War of 1812.
