Projects In Orleans County As of June 18th, Orleans Coun- ty has received from the govern- ment through the WPA a total of $137,690.02 i n labor and materials, while the county has expended ?18,498,00. The figures are from the ac- counting department of the dis- trict headquarters In . Lockport, md comprise hte most accurate account yet hod Of the benefit the county has received from the WPA. Total requests for funds for worthy enterprises jn the coun- y have been limited by Preslden- 'ial letter to $558,038. Of this sum the total cost -of performance has been set at $428,243. To date $137,- 890.02 or 32 percent of that sum, has been expended in the county by this government agency. The great majority of the im- provements that have been brought about In our communities through the allocation of funds drom the government, would not 'iave been possible. for ten or twenty years yet under municipal financing. As against .the $598,038 total proposed for the government, the county contracted to spend $129,- 785 or 23 per cent of the final total, but has' so far paid out only 518,498 or 14 per cent of the above nentloned 23 per cent wihch is Its share. Nearly every community In Or- 'enns County has been granted one or more projecU for i^ benefit # f Albion has had %-Mtitor **f had 2 and Kendall hV had 2 Others *x& at Bam. Then in addition to that there have been 25,258 hours credited and paid for, which were not worked because rain or some such thing held up the men af- ter they were on the job. AJ .the time of the last payroll period the county had over 400 men at work on the various pro- jects, 404 to be precise. And the last payroll gave 7,962 directly to men in Orleans County.
