During the past year ho was chairman of the social committee for tho fourth Local Fire Chief Warns People About Grass Fires Any person who causes a fire which burns on or over land not his own, state land, or land be- longing to a municipality, is liable for damages and these may bo very heavy, according to Fire Chief Leo Ranallo. Fires set on the outskirts of Medina are so numerous during the spring and so dangerous to residential property, fences as well as buildings, that the Medina fire department is compelled to use most of its equipment to put out these fires which might result in serioUs loss of life and damage One of the most objcctlonnl features of grass fires Is that they not only sot forests afire and gradually destroy the fertility of the soli, but they also destroy the nesting places of many birds, said the local Arc department head. Moreover, there is a heavy popu- lation of pheasants in almost all open fields and these birds arc also seriously affected by grass fires. And every sportsman should be interested in keeping these birds alive and allowing them U) nest undisturbed. Church To Observe Triple Anniversary The triple observance of Mo- thers' day, Rural Life Sunday, and the 25th anniversary of the pass- age of the Smith-Lever Act will take place Sunday, May 14, in the various churches of the county. Orleans county 4-H club mem- bers will take part in the services. Activities of the club members will take the form of ushering, f urn lulling flowers for altars, pro- viding the pastor with informa- tion concerning the club work, processions of club members, or assisting In the church service. After devotions and song ser- vice, the meeting will open with a panel discussion on the liquor traffic.
