But the stranger insisted that some signs be made for him. Mr. Fiske countered: \We do not teach by means of the sign language here. HE BELIEVED IN SIGNS Another Deck on the Queensboro Bridge Will Relieve Congestion 1 1 'HE Highway Bureau of the Long ' Island Chamber of Commerce, re- ports that increased traffic facilities on Queensboro Bridget are now assur- ed b y the action of the board of esti- mate of the City of New York , which provides for additional funds to start work re-locating the elevated tracks on the bridge , and approved the map for the acquisition of land accessary for the new approaches to the upper deck roadway. The board of estimate also author- ized the controller to.buy the lands necessary for the approaches at pri- vate sal e whenever possible. Adop- tion of the map, however , permits the controller to acquire needed prop- erty by condemnation. This action was urged upon the hoard of estimate by more than 70 civic organizations which have been protesting for some time against the unnecessary delay in increasing the traffic facilities on the Queensboro Bridge. When this work is completed in about 12 months , the available roatlway surface will be increased by 46 per cent., which will do much to relieve the traffic congestion; on the bridge.
