(Continued from page 1 1 , this section) is tho fact that the Edna , owned by Noxtham Warren of Sayville , which was built by Mr. Smith last year , won the Queen of the Bay cup in the Labor Day races off Sayville , climax- ing a long career in which Mr, Smith has repeatedly built champions. One of the high • points of his career came in 1910 when the Joyette , built by him , won the President Taft Cup oft* Marblehead in competition with two other American-made craft and three that wore the pride of Germany at this time. The guests Wednesday nig ht , were Mr. and Mrs, Asa Smith of Amity Street , Mrs. John B. Allen and daugh- ter Miriam of Red Bank , N. J., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mathieu owl daugh- ter , Miss Gertrude Mathieu -of Amity Street , Mrs. L. W. Beasley of Brook- lyn and Mrs, Carl Wucbker and two children of Schenectady. Mr. Smith enjoys fine health and Mrs. Smith is also very active and expects to entertain at a large fam- ily party on Thanksg iving Duy. MRS. All of the Port JelTcrBon districts voted better than three to one for,Hoover, ' ' The banner district' , : of the town was Number ,1 .at .Stony Brouk , where Hoover w/is!.a.tIi veiU«ohc 1 winner , the vote being -Hoover !i!1 3 anil Smith 66. The next h ighest ,.district in ratio was Number 81 at . East ' Moriches , where Hoover ' polled , B35 votes to Smi th' s 78 , and at Nunibcr 28 ,, Brookhaven , the vote was Hoover , 24!) and Smith 60 , both more than 4 to 1. Congressman Robert L. Bacon, re- elected by the Republicans , was a heavy favorite in Brookhaven town. He was given a handsome vote . in all but one of the districts , ' running sec- ond only to Hqover ,. und -polling in excess of 8 ,000 votes while . the . rest ./• ii... .:_i._i ...., „ ~...^.,:,i' .. „KM,I-1,, ,,„ ui i,nu uiunui,jy* uo.i|^iiiniK DIIAJ I *\ 1 ^ *••*- der 8 , 000. \ . ,.;.. . • ' ' . \ In the gubernatorial race there was considerable cutting of Ottinger so he ran almost an even thousand be- hind the presidential nominee. While these various Republicans were standing ' out on the ticket Dr, William Neuss of Yaphank , Demo- cratic candidate for coroner , led the county ticket for his party and was only a bit behind Roosevel t , who led his ticket in the town. Brookhaven this year bettered its Republican plurality over 1024 by 200 votes. In that year' . Coolidge re- ceived 0 , 519 votes in the town and Davis 1 , 946 , while in 1920 Harding was given 5 , 01!) and Cox 1 , 631. ON the state election . Brookh aven came through great , giving a Republican plurality that was 1 , 104 greater than was given Mills in his campaign against Smith two years ' ago- In the election . Mills received 4 , 800 votes and Smith 2, 427 and in 1924 Roosevelt was given 5 , 875 votes and Smith 3 , 131 or a plurality of 2 , 744. ' A \ surprising feature of the election was the apparently heavy Socialist vote cast Tuesday in many parts, of the county. In the 25th Patchogue district , voting at Barrie ' s showroom , the Socialist ticket .polled an average of 40 votes for each nominee on the ticket , while in the 20th district , vot- ing at the Van Guard headquarters , the Socialist vote was about 25. In the Moriches district there were 50 votes cast for some of the Socialist candidates. Republican leaders explain this heavy Socialist vote as ' a mistake and are confident Hint many peopl e thoug ht they were voting the Repub- lican ticket. This possibility existed , due to the fact-that the tickets were so close together on the machine , and a hasty . voter might slip on to the wrong line. On the other hand there are some who claim that the Socialist votes were intentionally marked up by voters disp leased ' .with'Smith and not enthusiastic over Hoover. The entire town did its voting early and easily, and the closing hour saw no long lines waiting to vote. The machines , with which most , peop le have now become familiar , greatly speeded up the work, and the efforts of the Kepublican leaders to turn out the vote at an ea rly hour had a strong effect. Almost 75 per cent, of the vote had been cast by noon , and the last few hours were tame and quiet. Most of the returns were in at !) o ' clock on the state and national ticket, these being received at the Young Men ' s Republican Club , Patch- ogue , Hoover headquarters , Port Jef- ferson, county headquarters , Bay Shore , and elsewhere. The Democrats kept no public headquarters open in this section. TO BE SUCCESSFUL—ADVERTISE Brookhave n Gives G. 0. P.
