NEW BELLPORT STREET MAPS Bellport High School News The second annual Dads ' night sponsored b y the High School Leaders Club and the Cadet Lead- ers Club was held last Wednesday night in the girls ' gymnasium. Each leader brought her father , a girl friend and her father. The 100 people attending were divided in four teams. Many junior and senior high teachers attended. They were: Richard Hall , Richard Stock , Richard Baldwin , Joseph Roberge , John Gorman , Renee Le Blanc , Authur Cooley, William Slosky, Miss Anne Tergeson , ad- visor of the Cadet Leaders Club , and Mary Beacom , advisor of the Leaders Club. The first event of the evening was a real snappy game of volley- ball followed b y a short game of c a g e b a 1 I , after which the fathers proved their abilities in a game of \Twenty Questions \ and three relay races. Everyone partici pated in some folk-mixer dances , and the fun-filled evening then ended with refreshments and a prize for the team that won the most games. Lynn Mac Dougal and Linda Love were in charge , along with several committees , to make it a successful evening. The Senior High Student Coun- cil met last Thursday. The main topic was the discussion and read- ing of the new revised constitu- tion. Many ammendments and mo- tions were made , all to benefit the welfare of the school. The junior high school had a \Pep \ assembly last Thursday. The seventh and eighth graders did some group singing accom- panied hy Nat Marchiano on the guitar. George Seyfert , Robert Steele and Richard Stock led the singing. Following the singing, some school cheers were led by the high school cheerleaders. Last week , Bellport Hi gh School began practice for the Varsity and the Junior Varsity Basketball teams. Some of the boys seeking a place on the Varsity team are: Alan Kinsella , Gary De Santis , Richard Hague , James Carroll , James Terry, Thomas Binnington , Bary Block , Paul Hassell , Mel Simpson , Frank Carle , Edward Scavelli , Do me ni ck Satornino , John Cook and Edward Frabizio. The \Turkey Twist\ presented bv the Freshman class was held Friday night in the school audi- torium , which was decorated in the Thanksgiving motif. All spent an enjoyable evening dancing to records supplied by the students themselves . The inn was decorated in circus fashion with humorous caked animals drawn on one wall and a freak show on another. Members danced under the \Big Top \ to the music of Sammv Gold. Afte r the grand march , the fol- lowing were awarded prizes: Best of show , Mrs. John Fitter , who was dressed as \The Wild Woman of Borneo \ ; funniest , Mr. and Mrs . GRove r 5-3600 EP Scout Troop Reg istration Up By 50 Per Cent Troop 128 of East Patchogue has re-registered for the coming year , showing an increase of 50 per cent in the number of boys registered over last year , accord- ing to committee chairman , Ar- thur Gross. In addition , 16 boys advanced one rank during the past year. So far this year , George Wittier , James Sidey and Greg Shore pass- ed their first class requirements and will receive their insignia at a court of honor December 5 at the East Patchogue School. A change in scoutmasters has taken place. James Sidey regret- fully withdrew from the position because of personal affairs , but a capable rep lacement , George Scott , has stepped into the breach. Mr. Scott is a former cubmaster of Pack 128. Assisting Mr. Scott as assistant scoutmaster is George Wittier. In addition , Robert Ger- ard has assumed the responsibilit y of instructing the scouts in first aid. The following patrol leaders have been assigned: George Witt- ier , John Scott , Robert DeLia , James Sidey, Gregory Shore and John Foti. The senior patrol leader is Michael Mover. Donald Porto has moved up from senior patrol leader to junior assistant scout- master. Recent troop activities have in- cluded two five-mile hikes and an overnight campout. As a civic duty project , the boys distributed \ get out the vote \ handbills before Election day. The troop ' s p lans for the imme- diate future include more camp- ing activities at Camp Bianchi over the Thanksg iving weekend and a fund-raising effort i-i De- cember. The funds raised wid be used to purchase some much- needed tents. The troop is already planning to participate in the Summer camp ing program at Bait- ing Hollow. Hubert , Jr., and his wife , Lucia Nelson Hubert , long time residents , as have been their peop le , oi Uirookhaven. The attractive shop, formerly the Grueci barber shop ou the east side of Bellport Lane has len t it-self to the atmosp here so dear to ibookshop lovers—it is quaint and attractive. Already available is an aston- ishing variety of printed matter , the latest books , both fiction anil non-fiction , reference books of all types with a large collection ol books on sailing, dictionaries , cook books and paperbacks by a num- ber of line publishers, ' there are also books for young people , rang- ing from cioth books up, with at- tractive stocking stutters for Christmas. The shop will have on exhibit and on sale selected works by ar- tists belonging to the South Bay Art Association. Also to be had will be unusual records such as Heirloom by the Uonyuns , for whom Mr. Hubert has done sound engineering, Droll Yankee records b y Peter Killam , Caedmon and other specialties. It seems that Mr. Hubert had long wanted to own a hook shop and has had experience in the field. Mrs. Hubert , too , has done library work along clerical lines. While a number of shops carry routine types of paperbacks , The Sou ' wester is the only real book- shop this side of Sayville , the owners pointed out. Set Union Thanksgiving Services in Brookhaven Changed From Zion Church: BROOKHAVEN—The annual Union Thanksgiving services will be held at 8 p.m. today at the Brookhaven-South Haven Presbyterian Church here instead of at the Ituth A.M.E. Member F' cderal Reserve System Raymond Perry Taken by Death At the Age of 84 A number of readers noted the death at 84 bust Wednesday of Raymond Perry, art editor ot comic books , painter , designer and Oook illustrator. He died at the Dresden-Madison Nursing Home, oti East Sixty-Seventh Street , New- York City after a long illness . His home was at 145 East Thirty- Fourth Street. Funeral services were held Friday at the Universal Chapel , Lexington Avenue and Fifty-Second Street. Mr. Perry is of particular in- terest to residents of this area be- cause he and his first wife , Emil y, one of the Russell sisters who summered in Brookhaven . lived for many years in the house later bough t and still owned and occu- pied b y Mr . and Mrs . Carl Olson ol South Country Road. Mr. Perry had been art editor of National Comics Publications, Inc.. of 575 Lexington Avenue , for the last 20 years. He also had designed windows for churches , such as those in St. Andrew ' s Church , Pittsburgh , and for libra- ries in Pennsy lvania. Portraits b y him are in the Seventh Regiment Armory and Fraunces Tavern in New York City and the Poe Cot- tage in Philadel phia. He was born in Sterling, 111., and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the New York Aca- demy of Fine Arts . Mr. Perry was a member of the Salmagundi Club, American Water Color So- ciety and Montclair Art Museum.
