While there , May 2 , they attended the brptism of their infant grand- daughter , Linda Dayton , at the new Long Island Interfaith Cha- pe! at the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point. The chapel was dedicated May first and Linda was the first one baptized at the new chapel. The chapel was dedicated in memory of 7 , 031 merchant seaman who died at sea , during the two world wars. Linda ' s father graduated from the Academy in May, 1945. After the baptism ceremony a luncheon was served at the of- ficers ' club. The Literature Workshop of the Moriches Woman ' s Club , Inc., meets at 2 p. m. May 18 at the home of Mrs. Henry Carmer at 83 Union Avenue. Members and friends are welcome. The program will consist of \Your Favorite Poems , Impressed Upon You In Your Childhood. \ Everyone should bring three poems with them. This will be the last meeting of the club until next Fall. The executive board and busi- ness meeting of the Moriches Woman ' s Club , Inc., scheduled for May 30 has been changed to May 23. A surprise stork shower was held for Mrs. Ralph E. Griffith of East Moriches Thursday night at the home of Mrs. Norman Whit- ney on Redbridge Road. Mrs. Whitney and Mrs. George Pirie of Center Moriches were hostesses. A basket filled with gifts was trimmed with pink and blue paper with streamers extending from the ceiling. A paper stork centralized the table of buffet refreshments and bouquets of daffodils . Mrs. Hall Barrett of Cooksville , Tenn., a former resident of Center Moriches , whose husband, the Rev. Hall Barrett was pastor of the Presbyterian Church of the Mori- ches, suffered a hip injury almost two months ago and just recently was a victim of a heart attack. She is now convalescing at her home. The Rotary Club of the Mori- ches meets at 6:15 p. m. Thursday at the Sunrise Restaurant. The Silva Rebekah Lodge met April 28 at the lodge hall in Center Moriches with Mrs. Viola Hyland , noble grand , presiding. There were 23 members and 5 guests present. Gladys Corwin of the Suffolk District 2 and part of her staff were welcomed. The Suf- folk District president and deputy marshal were presented with a gift from the lodge. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Grace Allen , Miss Mary Allen and Mrs. Edith Berkowitz. The card party, origin- ally p lanned for May 12 was post- poned to May 26 at 8:30 p. m. A meeting of the lodge at 7:30 p. m. will precede the party. Part of the proceeds will go towards the Camp Paquatuck Fund. The Center Moriches Fii-e De- partment , Ladies ' Auxiliary, met at 8 p. m. April 24 at the Center Moriches fireball with Mrs. Hen- rietta Hebberd , president , presid- ing. Plans were formulated for the annual dinner to be held at 7 p. m. June 12 at Sunrise Restaurant. Mrs. Estelle Trimble is chairman. A nominating committee , Mrs. Ca- rol Hulse , Mrs. Ann Palmer and Mrs. Dorothy Mullane , was ap- pointed. The special award was presented to Mrs. Viola Hy land. Plans were made to hold a food sale May 27 starting at 9:30 a. m. at Bohacks. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Marg ie Ambrose and Mrs. Carol Gurtler. The Men ' s Club of the Center Moriches Methodist Church met Saturday morning at the church with tools and paint brushes for painting the Parish House. The workers were : the Rev. William Waters , Capt. Leek , Myles Jones , Dan Croon , Felix Pike , Christian Mueller , Ralp h Griffith , Benjamin Griffith , Frank Ellson , David Sut- ton and Hivey Sutton. The house was half painted and it is hoped will be completed when they will meet again Saturday. GIRL SCOUTS Intermediate Troop 13 met May 2 at 3 p. m. at the home of their leader , Mrs. Dorothy Mullane with seven girls present. Place mats were made for the mother- daughter dinner and p lans were discussed for a camping trip some time the end of this month. After singing a few songs , the girls closed the meeting with the girl scout promise. Browiv e Troop 55 met at 3 p. m. Monday at the Center Moriches Elementary School. There were 16 girls present and Mrs. Peggy Kon- dratowicz , leader, and Mrs. Martha Rothery, assistant leader , supervis- ed the group. An election for flag bearer for the troop flag at the mother-daug hter dinner took p lace. Penny Malutka was nominated and elected. Plans were made for the annual dinner and songs were practiced for the occasion before the close of the meeting. A Brownie mother-daughter committee meeting took place at the Center Moriches Elementary School at 4 p. m. Monday. Six leaders discussed plans for the mother-daughter dinner program to be held at Sunrise Restaurant May 16 , at 6 p. m. Intermediate Troop 23 met in the afternoon May 1 at the Center Moriches Elementary school cafe- teria with Mrs. Paul Meyer and Mrs. Leo Redmond in charge. There were 14 girls present . Va- rious discussions were held by the gilds to pass badge work , in the case of some, in time for the an- nual dinner. Helene Turso and Sha- ron Zeneski led a discussion on rules for various sports. Etiquette for dances was discussed b y the entire group. A puppet show was presented by Arlene Agnetti and Virginia Sands . Future plans for the troop were discussed and songs were practiced in preparation for the mother-daughter dinner. Area Girl Scouts 'Rough It ' During Camp Weekend Forty-five Senior Scouts from South Suffolk Girl Scout Council enjoyed a primitive camping week- end at Yeoman Flats , Bear Moun- tain , leaving Friday after school and returning Sunday night. The girls , from Eastport , Cen- ter Moriches , Middle Island , Bell- port , Patchogue and Bayport , were accompanied by Mrs. Vernon Ha- vens , senior leader from East Mor- iches and Mrs. William Walsh , senior leader from Center Mori- ches. Mrs. Bernard Pagels of Bo- hemia , president of South Shore Girl Scout Council , and her daugh- ter , Intel mediate Scout Donna Pa- gels , accompanied the group. The two patrols pitched the tents and kitchen flies at dusk and spent a night punctuated with screams due to frequent visits from racoons who were bold enough to enter the tents. On Saturday, the group visited the United States Military Aca- demy at West Point. They witnes- sed the daily parade of cadets and visited the chapel. The girls had to use their in- genuity to prepare supper in the rain , but managed veiy well due to their advance preparation. The seniors tented at the foot of a hill but had to move to higher ground during the night because of a steady drizzle. Sunday morning, the Scouts at- tended church at Fort Montgom- ery and returned home afterward, a weary but happy group. Fearlessness is the mother of confidence. WARM WELCOME—Robert T. Designed to offer recreational serv- ices to blind residents of Brookhaven Township and nearby areas , new day center will be oper- ated by IHB on one-day-a-week basis as pilot project. The class left the Shirley Sta- tion at 7:14 a. m. April 19 and arrived in Baltimore at 12:35. They had lunch at the Charter House Restaurant in Baltimore and then visited Annapolis where they 3a\v the midshipmen go through var- ious drills. From Annapoli* - the class pro- ceeded to Baltimore where they boarded a steamship. The lass spent two nights aboard the steam- er. In the daytime they visited the town of Williamsburg and had lunch at the Williamsburg Lodge. The class arrived home at 5 p. m. April 21. Chaperones on the trip were Mr. and Mtrs. W. Wallace Thomas , Mrs. Arlene Doroszka , Thomas Young, William Turner , Norman Bessette , Donald Bindrim , Miss Jane Cass and Mrs. Helen Walker.
