VISOr August Stout , Jr. Brookhaven Town Supervisor August Stout , Jr., last week pre- sented to the Manor of St. George , through Chester Osborne , curator of manuscripts , several volumes of town records covering a period of over three centuries. The Manor of St. George , 10 miles east of Patchogu e in Mastic was willed by the last owner to the people of the Town of Brookhaven in 1954. Orginally granted in 1693 by King William and Queen Mary of England to Colonel William Smith , the estate remained in the family for 261 years. The manor contains a valuable collection of historical papers , books , and paint- ings , and is open , without chai ge , to the public for six months of the year. The manor curator and the town historians have collaborated for many years. Because of this co- operation , the manor papers have supp lied the town with information on , and photostatic copies of , early deeds , indentures , Revolutionary War documents and the like , which were unrecorded , thus filling in many blanks in the town ' s history. According to Mr. Stout: \By presenting cop ies of the bound volumes of town records going back to 1657 , to the Manor of St. Georg e , we hope to provide Mr. Osborne with a check list of early docu- ments on record. He will thus be able to continue collaborating with the Brookhaven Town historian , in exchanging information on earl y records. It is certainly to the inter- est of the town that this coopera - tion with the Manor of St . George curator be appreciated , fostered and encouraged. \ USPS Slates Annual Log Race Aug. 12 , 13 The 1961 Inter-Squadron Predic- ted Log contest conference was held last Thursday at the Naragan- sett Inn.
