Three bids were received for a six-passenger, eight-cylinder , sta- tion wagon to be used as a fire chief' s car. With the trade-in of the present 19,5 9 Pontiac station ' ' >h i\ -C-vlil -c) $1 150 ; South Ri\ y Pontiac , $985; and Patchogue Ford , $882.92. The board rejec t ed . all of the bids. Requests for bids on the con- struction of a front and back porch at the village hall were put out. but no bids were received. The board authorized the soli- citing of bids for the construction of the Lake Street parking field , a part of the village ot f-sireet parking plan. Bids nui^t be . -ul- mitted before 8 p. m. May 22 and specifications may be obtained at j th' 1 village clerk' s office. The village fathers also autho- ' rized the payment of $.500 to A. Robert Aletz of •]<; Oxbow Road , ¦ Patchogue , for the construction and painting of new steps at the Lake Street firehouse ; and they appropriated a sum not to exceed $1 . :U)0 for repair work on the swimming pool. The payment of I $1 , 292. -K' > in bills for the month \ of April was authorize d. BvmanBanaaanBMaBaanmaaMBBMaBBHBnMan an On another maite r , the board h^ard Mrs. Armand Siegel of 2(M Rider Avenue , Patchogue , request that the village construct and fi- nance the building of sidewalks on all streets within their jurisdic- • • . - a. . Waklbauer told Mrs. Siegel : \In the 10 years that KMuaMMkaMaanaiMaMana nH^H^ 1 have been on the board , this is the first time that this has been brought to pur attention. \ Mr. Walbauer pointed oat that when the village installs sidewalks now , each resident is charged half the price of installation. In regard to the village paying the entire cost , he said: \With the size of the budget we now have , it would l-iiu . -^i ., inipo sio.e. The mayor did add that per- haps a little could be done at a time and in this way the village could eventuall y have sidewalks throug hout. He said the matter would be discussed in the board' s executive session. The board set for public hear- ing at 8 p. m. May 22 , a re- zoiling petition by David and Theodore Rosen. The pair have re- quested a change from \B\ resi- dence to \C\ residence so they could install , ° »2 garden apartment units on their property, which is located on the east side of Rid?v Avenue , ?. 17 feet north of the cor- ner of Rider Avenue and Smith Street. The buildings would be one-story and a parking area would be constructed. Chief Thomas Newham , newly- elected head of the Patchogue Fire Department , reported that they have had 18 alarms since April 2-1 . He brought up that several of his men would like to have the siren in West Patchogue moved because they can 't hear it. Chief Newham told the board that another location for the siren has been found , but he said that first they will build a platform beneath the present siren to use as a sounding board for the sirens Wcj il. If this doesn ' t wo k , he -.aid the siren would probabl y have to be moved. The chief reported that some- thing has to be done with the numbering system on Lakewood Street. lie said that there is an East and West Lakewood Street and houses on the west section have the same house numbei s as those on the east. Mr. Newham said this could be dangerous in the case of a fire because a person calling them doesn 't specify whether the address is east or west. The mayor ap- pointed Trustee Dominiek G. Ma- letta to review the situation and report back to the board at its next meeting. Chief Newham also reported that the rewiring- of the Lake Street firehouse from the central control to the alarms has been fin- ished. On other matters , the board :1) passed a resolution banning park- ing in the Church Street parking lot while it is under construction ; 2) requested the use by the village of the parking lot behind the Moose Lodge on North Ocean Ave- until November 1 , when three of the village ' s off-street parking fields are slated to be finished; 3) allowed from 15 to 18 men from the Van Guard 1 , 000 to use a company truck to go to a com- munion breakfast May 28 at Good Samaritan Hospital , West Islip; 4) resolved to construct curbs on the east side of Mascot Dock about six feet out to allow for a pedes- trian walk-way; 5) announced that the \L\ shape at the end of Mascot Dock will be blocked off completely; 6) resolved to paint the signs at the end of Mas- cot Dock ; 7) resolved vesting of title on the Lake Street parking lot; 8) d°nied a permit to Edward Barrie to install a penny arcade in a vacant store on South Ocean Avenue ; 9) appointed Trustee Wil- liam J. Newham to represent the village in the Brookhaven Town Civil War Centennial Committee organization meeting; 10) dismis- sed as unfounded a letter to the board from Benjamin F. Kiefer , who asked that the Patchogue Ho- tel be condemned; and 11) discus- sed the removal of the island on Park Avenue near the corner of Park Avenue and Highland Ave- nue.
