We heard one the other day. Both were talking about the same reci pe and each called it by a different name. Well , it finished with each one having bis ori g inal opinion , and it made us recall the old adage , \A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still. \ And certainly one using a cup of molasses \ sure \ could be called a Molasses Cake. So , for our re- cipe we used one that has no gin- ger in it. Couldn 't possibly be a ginger bread. Molasses adds much to the sweetness of life . A barrel of it in the olden times was a welcome ad- dition to any larder , Summer and Winte r , though in Winter the ex- pression \ slower than molasses \ needs no explanation. MOLASSES CAKE 1 cup molasses % cup sugar % cup butter or dri ppings 1 egg % cup warm water 1 large teaspoon soda dissolved in a little water 2Vz cups flour Vz teaspoon salt juice and grated rind of y - _ lemon added last Cream sugar and shortening, add egg and molasses. Next add water, soda , flour and salt. Then add juice and rind of lemon. Bake in moderate oven.
