Navy League Unit In Suffolk Will Hold Dinner at PJ Today The first annual dinner meeting of the Suffolk County , New York Council of the Nav y Leagu e of the United States , will be held this evening at 8 p. m. at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Port Jeffer- son. The Navy League is a civilian organization which seeks to keep in touch with naval affaiis and to further civilian activities which will be of assistance to our coun- try and the Navy. The guest speaker for the even- ing will be Floyd Houston , a resi- dent of New Suffolk. Mr. Houston has made cabinet making his hob- by and because of this he commenced making models of old submarines and during the past year or so , he has made several b°autiful models of the new atom- ic submarines for the Navy and various museums. Mi* . Houston ' s talk should be of great interest as he is well versed in the history of submarines and has given several lectures on this subject in the re- cent past. Also present will be Commander Walter J. Ellis , USN , public in- formation officer of the Third Na- val District who will present a sea- power presentation , \The Con- quest of Inner Space. \ Anyone wishing to attend this \first of its kind\ event may do so by contacting Elaine Maier at GRover 5-1000 for a reservation. There will be a nominal charge for the cost of the dinner. Suffolk Lodge 1666 of B' nai B' nth will meet at Temp le Beth El of Patchogue Wednesday night. This meeting will be devoted to honoring candidates for high school graduation. Rabbi Leo Lichtenberg, director of Hillel at Adelphi College and Hofstra Col- lege will speak on Hillel , which is a home away from home on over 200 college campuses throughout the United States. David Pearlmutter , president of the lodge , announced that Allen Robinson , Hillel chairman , will in- troduce the students. All are invi- ted and refreshments will be served. The kick-off meeting began a membership drive which will con- tinue until Satuiday, at which time membership in the associa- tion will close for the year and a program of concerts for the com- ing \ear will be completed. Dinner Kicks Off Concert Group ' s Member Drive Patchogue Village tax bills will be sent out this week , Clerk Ron- ald A. Blau announced Monday. They are due and payable June 1 , but may be paid without pen- alty up to and including July 1. Mr. Blau said : \Residents will probabl y notice that their tax bills a e lower this year than they were last , reflecting the decrease in the tax rate for this fiscal year. \ The village office will be open , starting June 1 , from 9 a. m. to 4 p. m. Monday through Friday. During June and July, the office will be open from 9 a. m. to noon on Saturdays , according to Mr. Blau , \for the convenience of tax- payers. \ On other village news , the clerk reported that work is progressing smoothly on the Church Street parking field , number one in the village s $1 , 000 , 000 four-field off- street parking plan. Mr. Blau said that all of the demolition work , which was start- ed last week , is completed. The surface of the field is now being torn up, which will necessitate no parking in the field until its com- pletion. Village Trustee Roy* F. Krieger reported that work is well under way on the construction of two new Littl e League baseball fields , one in the rear of the Rider Avenue tennis courts and one ad- joining the Shorefront Park on the corner of Dewitt Avenue and Smith Street. Expansion and improvements to the municipal swimming pool are also underway, Mr. Krieger said , and include a new concrete floor foi the men ' s ba thhouse and ad- ditional seating on the south side of the pool , plus repair work to the filtering system.
