On Monday they will begin new readers. This week we are learning about our community. We have written stories and drawn pictures about a hospital , the fire depart- ment , the police department and a bank. This week a boy in Mrs. Gross ' s grade two named Robert Henk brought some egg masses of praying mantes to school . They have no wings. In a few weeks they will have wings. Or instead of cars , we might have rockets. When Gerard Sigismont is about 28 he may go into space and take a ride. He is only eight now. Diane Dolcemachio has a duck. His name is Chee Chee. It lays an egg every day. He can say \ quack , quack. \ He comes and puts his head on your lap. Diane got him Sunday. He is very good. William Lewis found a nest . In the nest were five speckled o^ix^. When he was in the tree the mother bird was making a noise. The mother was looking for food when he found the nest. Davit 1 was with him at the time. Janet Johnsen ' s cat went into the woods. When she came back she had two rabbits and was try- ing to hurt them. About two days later the cat went back to the woods. When she came back she had another rabbit. This rabbit was hopping all over the house. We had to let it go. Randy Lee got a puppy Friday. His namfe is Blackie. He goes be- hind the sink. Sometimes he is funny. Sometimes he is not. He sleeps all night long. He wants to go out in the day time. He plays with Randy. Randy likes Black , and Black likes Randy. John Hughes learned a new song about \Alice In Wonder- land. \ He heard it on a record player. She wished that everybod y could go to Wonderland. Mrs. Ritz ' s grade three i s studying about syllables. We have been finding and dividing two and three syllable words. We like to tap out the syllables , and we find we can spell better by listening to the syllables. Describing things has been our language lesson this week. We have used words which tell \ what kind of. \ We described everything from a new car to a tri p into the woods. We welcomed Gary Zaloga from Riverhead to our class. Mrs. Runyan helped us make colorful butterflies. The bodies were newspaper covered with col- ored tissue paper to which we at- tached the feelers.
