Mr. Jacob.; re- cently presided at the largest tax sale in the history of Suilolu County. A life-long resident of the Hamptons area , he has always been interested in communit y af- fairs. He is a former president and member of the Hamp ton Bays Board of Education and is a for- mer chief and exempt member of the Hampton Bays Fire Depart- ment. He is also a former com- mander of the local American Le- gion Post , a member of the Hamp- ton Bays Lions Club and a mem- ber and trustee of the Hamp ton Bays Methodist Church. He is mar- ried and the father of one child. Mr . Barry is a candidate for his second term as count y welfare commissioner. Before he assumed this office , he held numerous ap- pointive civic and governmental positions for a period of 16 years. Most recently, \Jack\ was direc- tor of the Suffolk County Civil Defense office. It was under his ad- ministration that this office \ at- tained its peak efficiency, \ it was pointed out. This efficiency has been carried over to his running of the wel- fare department , it was added. Last week , he announced that \the cost of public assistance to a tax- payer has , for the first time in years , been reduced from the pre- vious year despite record welfare assistance \ Always active in civic and fra- ternal affairs , he is an active mem- ber of the New York State Asso- ciation of Fire Chiefs , Police As- sociation of Suffolk Count y, Brook- haven Town Fire Chiefs Council , Patchogue Kni g hts of Columbus , Patchogue Lodge of Elk s , and a past member of the Patchogue Kiwanis Club. A native of Suffolk County, he is married and the father of four children. After the meeting, County Leader Arthur M. Cromarty point- ed to the accomp lishments of the candidates in predicting \ a com- plete and telling victory for the Republican party in Suffolk Coun- ty this year. \ ¦ ¦ ' .
