Tietze New York State Division of Veterans ' Affairs BONUS: New York State paid a bonus for World War 1 active service performed between April 0 , 1917 and November 11 , 1918. The rate of payment was $10 a month for each month of active service with a maximum of $150 payable to any one case. There was nt) distinction made between stateside or overseas service. The detailed records concerning pay- ment of WWI State Bonuses have been destroyed. A veteran , there- fore , generally will not be able to obtain the date or amount of pay- ment of the WW I NYS veteran bonus . A document may be obtain- ed through this agency , however, from the Division of Veterans ' A ffairs , 155 Washing ton Avenue, Albany 10 , N. Y., which will indi- cate that a veteran app lieel for and received the NYS bonus for serv- ice in WW I. COMPENSATION: The current monthly compensation rates foi veterans with war time service- connected disabilities which be- came effective October 1 , 1957 are : 10 por cent — $19; 20 per cent — $36; 30 per cent — $55; 40 per cent — $73; 50 per cent — $100; 60 per cent — $120 ; 70 per cent — $1-10; 80 per cent — $160; 90 per cent $179 . and 100 per cent — $225. Peacetime service is com- pensated at the rate of 80 per cent of wartime disability rates. Additional compensation for de- pendents is payable to veterans who are rated 50 per cent or more disabled. EDUCATION: Children of de- ceased veterans who are elig ible for schooling under the War Or- phans Educational program are not allowed to pursue correspond- ence courses under this law. INSURANCE: World War II National Service Life Insurance or post-Korea NSLT policy holders (except for RH policies ) may add a total disability income rider to their policies at a small additional premium cost. Policy-holders who become total- ly disabled from anv cause before age 60 and while the TDIP clause is in effect will receive an income of $10 a month for each $1 , 000 of their NSLI which is in force. Payments under the disabilit y income rider may begin after the insured has been totall y disabled for six consecutive months and continue for the duration of the disability regardless of how long it lasts. No payment may be made for disabilities incurred after age 00 and no premium charge . ' for this benefi t is made afte r that elate. The premium cost for the- TDIP varies according to the insured' s age , type of policy and its face amount. Payments under the disability income provision do not reduce the face amount of the NSLI policy payable at death. Premium pay- ments , moreover , both on the basic NSLi policy and the disability rider , may be waived upon app li- cation by the insured for any period of total disabilit y lasting longer than six months. ARMED FORCES: The Soldier ' s and Sailor ' s Civil Relief Act of 1940 , as amended , permits the courts to prevent the foreclosure on a loan of a person in active military service and for three months after his discharge. The income of a service person , how- ver , must be so reduced that tlie required payment on the loan can- ned, bo made . Tbe law does not for- give payments on the loan. Any part of the payment which is post- poned must he made up after dis- charge from the Armed Forces.
