For your best source of infor- mation locally, read The Advance each week. —Adv. ¦¦ i '¦ News of the Churches MASTIC BEACH — Mrs. Fer- trude Parker, secretary of the Mastic Beach Property Owners Association , announced this week the association ' s four beaches , parkland and marinas are ready for the 1961 season. Much work has been done on these properties to add to the en- joyment of the members , she said. New sand has been added to the beaches. Jelly fish nets have been installed and bulkheading done at the various marinas. The private parkland , beaches and the Fire Island property of the association are now being patrolled by their own police force and beach guards until the end of the season. Due to a fire April 15 which gutted the clubhouse on Nei g h- borhood Road , the general business meetings will be held at the Mas- tic Beach Yacht Club on the Riv- iera until further notice. Mrs. Parker , who is membership chairman for the association , said the yacht club will be open every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a. m. to 1 p. m. for collection of 1961 dues, new membership ap- p lications and to answer questions and supply information regarding the association. At a general business meeting to be hel d at 8 p. m. Saturday at the yacht club , plans for a new clubhouse will be discussed: The burned building is in the process of being dismantled. Mastic Beach Unit Reports Beaches Ready Miss Sharon Wenzel , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Wenzel of Center Moriches , received her ' Miss Sharon Wenzel B.S. degree from the State Uni- versity College of Education at Albany June 11. Miss Wenzel graduated cum laude wit h a major in biology. She was a member of Phi Delta social sorority and Kappa Delta Epsilon , national education honor- ary sorority. She has been accepted for grad- uate study in education at the college. Miss Wenzel Earns Degree From Albany SHIRLEY — The Second An- nual Miss Shirley, L. I. Beauty Contest sponsored by the Shirley, L. I. Taxpayers Association will be held at 8:30 p. m. Saturday at the clubhouse on Grandview Drive. The contest is open to all fe- male residents of the area . 14 years of age or over , according to Nicholas P. Bouhouris , presi- dent of the organization. The winner will be crowned Miss Shirley 1962 by Walter T . Shirley at ceremonies held over Labor Day weekend. She will also be g iven a jeweled wand , an en- scribed banner and a figurine trophy. Last year ' s winner was Miss Marianna Santamaria. Judges for the contest will in- clude Robert Heins , Michael Gross and Vincent Basile. Other highlights of the evening will include a large fireworks dis- play and a dance to be held in- side the building with music fur- nished by The Continentals. A dance contest will be con- ducted by Norman Cavaliere. Awards will be presented to win- ning couples. Refreshments will be served.
