Sup e rs Urge USDA To Drop Suffolk Tag As Gypsy Moth Area Tbe Board of Supervisors last weeK ui^eii the United States De- partment of Agriculture to drop its desi gnation of Suffolk County as an infested area under the gypsy moth quarantine program. The resolution adop ted unani- mously by the supervisors con- tends there is no justification for the designation by the USDA be- cause no gypsy moth females or egg masses have been found in Suffolk since 1957 , the date of the first quarantine imposed in the county. An intensive aerial spray pro- gram was undertaken in 1957 to eradicate the gypsy moth which attacks the foliage of trees and shrubbery. The board also contended that the designation works a hardship on nurseries in Suffolk because all nursery products transported out of the county must be certified as free from gypsy moth infestation. Certified cop ies of the resolution were forwarded to W. B. O'Dell of the Plant Pest Control Division , Agriculture Research Service , US- DA.
