Board President James T. Gil- martin said the tax late will be \ possibl y more than $5.50 per $100 assessed valuation. \ At a rate of $5.50 the school tax for the district will increase $.45 from the 1900- 01 tax \ late of $5.05 per $100 as- sessed valuation. Major items in the bud get in- ciease were teacheis ' salarie- and increased tuition for sending students to Center Moriches schools m School Uisti ict 33. Mi Gilmaitin said the .stalling salarj foi a bachelor of arts was in- c eased liom $4 , 700 to $ \ > , 000 p\i year . A $300 across-the-board salary inciease for teachers was given , Mr. Gilmartin said , p lus an increment to adjust olde teacheis ' salaues to the new $5 , 000 starting salaiy . Walter Oimsby, district super- intendent of the Second Super- visory School District, had ad- vised the boaid that the average 'tailing salary for 10 suiroundmg disti icts was $5 ,000, Mr. Gil- maitin said. Tuition costs have been in- cr eased by Distr ict 33 (Centei Moriches) b y $100 m the last two year s. For the 1J01-02 school year , Mr. Gilmaitin said , the tuition will be $500 for each of close to 70 students who will attend the Cen- ter 1 Moriches School. Members of South Manor school' s sixth grade will stud y at Center Moriches foi the fust time in seveial years , ht said. T uition in 1959-00 at Centei Moriches was $400. It increased to $450 the next year and will be $500 for the next school year. Mr. Gilmartin told the 21 per- sons at the annual meeting that the boaid of education ta\ ored having the state make a survey to study the possible need for re organization of school distiicts in the aiea. School District 33 also favors the survey. Mr. Gilmartin said he read a letter from School District 33 , saying West and East Manorville , School District 11 (Eastport) and School District 34 ( East Moriches ) declined the in- vitation to have a survey made of their respective districts. Mr. Gilmartin was elected to a three-year tei m on the board Joseph Danowski was elected to fill out the unexp ired term of Mrs. Isabel Crockett, who had one more year to serve. She resi gned when she moved to Southampton. At the reorganization meeting of the board held Tuesday night Mr. Gil- martin was reelected to another one-year term as board president . The petition of South Man- orville youth to attend auto mechanics school in Bellport was declined. Tuition and transporta - tion costs to the district would have been $825 , Mr. Gilmartin said. Medford Civics Ask Lower S peed Limit The Medford Taxpayers and Ch ic Association met Monday night at the Medford Hotel. A guest was Howard Rowland , a councilman of Brookhaven Town. The possibilit y of obtaining a stop light at the inter section ol Long Island Avenue and State Road was discussed; the moving up of the 30 mile speed limit from Jamaica Avenue South to South Haven Avenue and going North from South Haven to Jamaica A\ enue were also broug ht up. Located between Jamaica Ave- nue and South Haven Avenue is a farm stand , restaurant , motel , dance studio and the Tr emont Avenue School. There are go slow , school zone signs posted. The or- ganization feels that if the slower speed limit was extended and en- forced the possibility of accidents would be less. It was requested of Mr. Rowland that he take the matter up with Cap tain Irving Weeks of the Suffolk Count y Police , Fifth Precinct. The organization is p lanning a card part y October 13. Mrs. Mary Betts and Mrs. Mary Lenhard are chairman and co-chairman of the affair. The next regular meeting of the association will be held August 7 at the Medford Hotel. All residents of the area are invited to attend.
