SENIOR GIRL SCOUTS Shirley Senior Girl Scout Troop 109 met July 6' at the home of Miss Frances Weller on Clymer Place , Mastic. Tuthill gave a lawn party and barbecue on the Fourth in celebration of Mrs. Ainslie Baird' s birthday. A long-awaited event here takes place today in the Home and Gar- den Tour conducted by the Rem- senburg Garden Club. Members of other garden clubs on eastern Long Island are expected to be on this much-advertibed tour of four of Remsenburg ' s beautiful homes and grounds. During the next three Sundays, the pulpit here will be supp lied by the Rev. John Rasberry, Chap- lain at the Suffolk Count y Air Force Base , who spoke here Me- morial Day and who is welcome into our midst. On August G , the new chap lain from the Air Force Base will preach here. Arrangements have been made to have a joint service hero with the East Moriches congregation on the last Sunday in August. To enable the East Moriches congregation to meet earlier dur- ing the month of August o*u r ser- vice will begin 15 minutes earlier than usual , or at 9:30 a. m. Owing to some mechanical trouble the church organ has not been operating properly the last two Sundays , but repairs are be- ing made and trust it will he back in full volume by next Sunday. \Forgiveness \ was the subject of M'r. Dickson ' s sermon Sunday morning. Because of difficulty with the organ the usual anthem was omitted. Several from here attended morning service at the Westhamp- ton Presbyterian Church Sunday to hear and to greet a former min- ister of that church , the Rev. John Hendrickson of Levittown. Last week' s church fair given by the Ladies ' Aid Society proved a success with receipts amounting to over $200 of which about $125 came from the food table. Charles Spicer , formerly of this village , who recently completed his basic training at Fort Dix, ha.s been assi gned his first tour of duty in Germany. John W. Tuthill , III , who ha. - been at a naval base in Rhode Is- land , has been assi gned to a ship going to the Mediterranean with stops in Italy and other points in the Middle and Far East. John is the son of M' r. and Mrs. Elbridge Tuthill , now of Eastport , and the great-grandson of John W. Tuthill, Sr., builder of the Academy and principal of the private school con- ducted there after the Civil War. Walter Jayne has broken ground for a new home on a lot on the Jayne farm on Club Lane. His en- gagement to Miss Veronica Kruk has been announced by her par- ents , Mr . and Mrs. Stanley Kruk , of Manorville. No date for the wedding has been set. Mrs. Marguerite Tuthill and members of her family, including Walter Jayne and his fiancee , MJiss Kruk , enjoyed a Fourth of July get-together at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Algernon B. Jayne held July 2. Here this week are the Misses Ann and Louise Homer of Hamil- ton , Ontario , Canada , who are guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ethan D. Alyea. The Rev. Gordon Dickson ' s vaca- tion begins Monday. He and Mrs. Dickson and their three children , in company with Mrs. Dickson ' s parents , the Rev. and Mrs. Donald Yule of Amagansett. will leave this week on a camping trip to New Brunswick , Nova Scotia. The Ladies ' Aid Society has dis- continued its meeting for the Sum- mer. The next one will be in Sep- tember. Mrs. Ruth Phillipsn of New ^ ork is now at her Summer home on Main Street. Frank Walsh , who has been in the employ of Mrs. Phillipson for 20 years , is here with his family recuperating from a six-month' s illness , including time in a hospital . !
