The firm of contractors will be- gin work this week and expect to complete the project by the fall , at which time the building will be returned to full service. Concur- rently the church building in which the Presbyterian congrega- tion now worshi ps will be rede- si gned as a school house for pur- poses of Christian education. Among the tasks to be under- taken during the Summer for re- storing the Old South Haven Church are re-p lastering of the interior , two coats of paint in- side and out , construction of a small addition to serve as robing room , many carpentry repairs to windows , pew r s , and shingles , ar- rangements for suitable lighting, heating, p lumbing, and music , landscaping as permitted by bud- get considerations. Problems of interior decoration are now engaging the attention of the building committee , and two members of the committee p lan a trip to Port Washington within the week to discuss various de- si gns with the firm of Albert Wood and Five Sons , specialists in this area of church interior work. Of particular concern is the treatment of the existing chancel wall. The committee and the con- gregation were greatl y heartened last week when an unexpected gift of $1 , 000 was made for the installation of a central chandelier. Lig hting firms are being consult- ed for the desi gn of a suitable colonial fixture. The Old South Haven Church was constructed in 1828 , although the congregation dates its history from 1717. The building has been one of the well-known landmarks on the south shore , and the Pres- byterian Church , together with its building committee , are anxious to preserv e and use the building in its correct historical context.
