One of the most interesting fea- tures of most dog shows are the Obedience classes , while pure bred , tator need know nothing about the fine points of a dog or the stan- dard for a breed as the dogs in Obedience classes , while pure bred are not judged as specimens, of their breed but for how well they obey the prescribed com- mands given them . On that basis each dog is scored. Brookhave n Club has scheduled seven Obedi- ence classes. The fi rs t is for beginners on lead limited to dogs that have never received a qualify ing score at a licensed A. K. C. (American Kennel Club) Obedience Trial. Other classes are Novice \A\ for dogs not having received C. D. title—officiall y Companion Dog, Novice \B\ with same restric- tions , Graduate Novice for dogs not yet titled C.D.X. (Companion Dog Excellent) , Open \A\ and \B\ with similar limitations and Utilitv dogs entitled to the cove- ted U. D. designation. The performance of any dog that can sign U. D. (Utility Dog) after its name is a treat to see as an examp le of extraordinary obedience and intelligence. Dogs that have previously won Obedi- ence degrees will be shown for exhibition only and not compete for prizes. For these events rib- bons for first , second , third and fo u rth placings will be given as well as club trophy for first in each class. A special trophy will be awarded to the dog earning the highest score in these trials. Judges who will officiate are Louis Menninge r of Huntington , , Miss Mildred Palmer. Huntington Station and Kurt Schoenfield of I Greenlawn . Refreshments will be available on the show grounds as well as an equipped playground for chil- dren. Ample parking space is im- mediate to the grounds. Further information can be ob- tained from the show chairman , Stephen O'Kula.
