Stan Cox was blanked in th RBI column in game against Neppell' s Insurance while Charlie Ci 'Ct . picked up a n-iir against Ron & Bill . Stan still leads with 31 with (Jiaihe Hist two behind. MILD UPSET — Probably the most surprising result in North Bchp ort Slo-Ball play this season came about last week when Ron 6c B ll' s . ,h< .wng little respect for Hagerman ' s title of first half rh ampK.n s . hand' d the vamps one of their worst beatings in the hw iy of the league with a 16-4 lacing. Ralph Forgione and the Ron & Bill defense limited the Hagerman hitters to just eight safe- ti( s as they pounded out 22 to tally in every inning but the second. Th* gan t . in addition to bringing a smile to the face of Asphalt slippp i Jr-n Coleman , Vi oug ht about the possibility of a three way T ' f ' j n - \ r 't half action This will depend on a combination of a Ron & Bill Mctoiy tonight over Neppell' s Insurance and a repeat \utoi\ bv Hag-erman over the Asphalt August 3. However , should the Asphalt defeat Hagerman in the season windup, the re g u la r sc nedule < M 11 he c oncluded with the playoff between the vamps and I >* T \ et for Au ^ U5t \ • 8 an d 9. Getting back to the Hagerman- R&B fncountrj it pioved to be a game in which the firemen were unable to unleash then vaunted hitting attack with just a half do/ n ^ single, and a bia-e of doubles entering the scorebook. Babe Sca\ei ' i after hitting- safely to lead off the game , went out on his m <a three tup- , while Bob Staab of the Waxers was enioying his best night of the j ear , going: five for five to regain the lead in the rac e fo r the batting title . This particular game saw a team , who on two protons weeks had given up a total of 32 runs to the VFW and thf A sphalt, come back with a spai klinj? performance at a time wnm it counted most. It would be our guess , however , that the garn< will do flagei man nioie good than harm as it will erase any tia< ( s of possible complacency which may have resulted from its eight gam. winning .streak and make them tw ice as toueh in th\ unp o itant games to follow. Patchoguer Appointed NRA Safety Instructor Patchogue Lumber scored an unearned run in the fourth inning to deieat Watts Pmmbing 9-8 last Tuesday at the Shorefrom L iuk and vaulted into fourth p lace in the Patcnogue Businessmen ' s Softball League standings. It was the Lumbermens third victory in seven games and second in two starts over Watts , the de- fending league champions. Bob McGinness was the winner , settl- ing down after a shaky first tnree innings in which he allowed all eight runs. Red Carsten was the loser as the Plumbers dropped to fifth p lace. Red-hot Sybelle Carpets posted its fifth straigh t victory with an easy 11-2 victory over Local 237 Thursday. The day before , Four Seasons Sports Center won on a forfeit over Lyons Ford. Lyons also was forced to with- draw fro mthe league. They were immediately i % ep laced by Farming- ville who will inherit their won j and lo&t record and position in the \ league standings. j Guy Antonacci' s boot of a giounder off the bat of Bob Brou- wer , the thirteenth error of the game b y the two teams , enabled Joe Marti n , who had sing led to i cross the p late with the w inning run for Patchogue Lumber. By comparison , the Sybelle- Local 237 game was just as sloppy as both clubs combined for eight enors. The Teamsters , the only team to defeat Sybelle this season , were never in the contest as the caipetmen w rapped it up with a trio of three-run innings. Warming up for the ASA Tour- ney, held at Patchogue and which started last Saturday, Vin Vigo- rito p icked up his fifth victory. He gave up two hits and no runs in that span. Charlie Biaisax came on and was touched for both Teamster luns in the last two innings. In the bixth , Bill Fedorj k sing led to deep short and continued to sec- ond when Mike Savino thiew the ball away. He came home on a pair of infield outs.
