Retarded Children Drive Volunteers Needed for Canvass Edward Quinn , chairman of the 1961 Fund Drive of the Associa- tion for the Help of Retarded Children , reissued his appeal for volunteers to aid in this once a year campaign. He urged all club groups , men , women and students who have a little time to give , to contac t AHRC Headquarters , 241 South Ocean Avenue , Patchogue , or call GRover 5-0784. \Interested persons need not hesitate because of inexperience. The campaign plans are nearing completion , and volunteers will ba given detailed instruction , neces- sary to carry out their specific jobs , \ Mr. Quinn stated. He added that pre-campaign workers stre needed at this time to assist with clerical chores. The fund drive , held in conjunc- tion with National Retarded Chil- dren ' s Week in Suffolk , Septem- ber 17 to 30 , seeks to raise $47 , 200 for the purpose of contin- uing and expanding essential ser- vices for the 18 , 000 retarded chil- dren and adults in Suffolk County, and to help support research into the causes and prevention of re- tardation. Mr. Quinn said that studies re- veal that about 300 children are born in the United States each day who will be mentally retarded. The bride , who was given in marriage by her father , wore a floor-length gown of white silk organza with a scattering of Alen- con lace throughout the gown. Barbaia Kappes , of Bayside , who wore identical blue gowns , floral head- pieces and carried pink colonial bouquets. Miss Jacqueline Doyen of Mas- tic , Miss Carmela Semprevio of Gloversville and Miss Marjorie Lagno of Little Neck were brides- maids. Their gowns were identical to that of the maid-of-honor with matching headpieces. They car- ried crescent-shaped bouquets of blue daisies and ivy. Richard Harold Pfeiffer , broth- er of the bridegroom , was best man , and Richard E. Brennan of Mastic Beach , another brother of the bridegroom , Ewald Barty of Manorville and William Tickle of Oswego were ushers. Two hundred guests were at the church and later a reception for 150 guests was held at the Henry Perkins Hotel , Riverhead , starting with a cocktail hour.
