Milk Price to Drop One Cent in Dist . 24 The price of milk in the schools of District 24 (Patchogue-Medford ) will drop from three to two cents beginning in September , according to Superintendent Alden T. Stuart. Cost of school lunches will con- tinue at 30 cents in the elemen- tally schools and 35 cents in the senior high school , he said. Dr. Stuart explained the milk price drop by praising the \ good management\ of Mrs. Joseph Lau- ghlin , who is in charge of the schools ' cafeterias. For a period of time some years at> o he was as- sistant to the publisher of The Patchogue Advance. He is survived by his wife , Lela of East Patchogue; two sons , Wal- ter C. Jr.. of Morris Plains , N. J. and John of Seattle , Wash ; a bro- ther , H. Stanley Freeman of Roch- ester; and five grandchildren. Museum Entries for the Sixth Annual Long Island Amateur Artists Award Exhibition may be submit- ted Saturday and Sunday and Au- gust 2 through 6 between 10 a. m. and 5:30 p. m. at the Suffolk Museum at Stony Brook . The ex- hibition is open to all amateur artists , 18 years of age or older , who reside on Long Island , Jane des Grange , museum director , said. The exhibition will run from August 19 through Sep tember 21. There is a small entry fee for each submission. Forms may be secured from the museum. The amateur art show jud g ing will be held August 19 , and the amateur art exhibition will open on the same day. The awards will include: Jury cash awards : $100 first in oil painting and $100 first in water- color. Sufi. Water Authorit y Opens Pump ing Plant The placing in service of the Suffolk County Water Authority ' s thirty-ei g hth pumping p lant was announced this week by T. Bay les Minuse , chairman. The completed project will serve customers in the Great River , North Great River and East lslip areas. It comprises a new high capacit y well producing 1 , 440 , 000 gallons of water daily. Located on a four-acre site on Bellmore Ave- nue , North Great River , the new well , including pumping equi p- ment and facilities for insuring the delivery of water of good san- itary quality, has cost the authori- t y $120 , 000. \This new plant will provide ad- equate water supply for an addi- tional 1 , 250 families which , to- gether with existing service to 29, 345 families and businesses , will bring public water service to over 70 ,000 persons in the Bay Shore system , \ Mr. Minuse stated. Smokey the Bear will visit the Itoltsville-Farmingville Fire De- partment Saturday and Sunday. As a large percentage of fires in this area are brush or forest fires , the Fire Department in co- i peration with the United States Forest Service invited Smokey to focus attention of children and adults on the means of preventing these fires. To commend Smokey for his 20 years of service as a symbol of fire safety in our wood- ed areas , he will be made honor- ary chief during his stay. Smokey will give out comic books and other fire safety infor- mation material to the young folks as he circulates through the two towns. He will appear in the eas- tern end of the district on Satur- day from 1 to 3 p. m. Sunday will find Smokey in the Maple- crest section and the western end of the district including Farming- ville Lawns from 10:3; a. m. to 12 noon. Dur- ing the month of August worship service will be at 9 a. m. While the Rev. John M. McLoughlin is on vacation in August, the guest minister will be the Rev. Norman Minard of Centereach. A church fair sponsored by the Women ' s Fellowshi p will be ' held on the chinch grounds from 7 p.m. tomorrow and starting at 10 a. m. Saturday. This will be an old- fashioned type of church fair held for the benefit of the Church Building Fund. Garry Letsch won the scrambled shoe contest , Robert Bruno was third in the 50-yard dash , William Strecker was third in the backwards race and second in the scrambled shoe contest. Mark McNeill was third in the hopping race and the scrambled shoe contest. In the events for girls seven and eight , Kathy McGann won the 50-yard dash and was second in the backward race and the hopping race. Mary Donnell y won the back- ward race and the scrambled shoe contest and was second in the 50- yard dash and third in the hop- ping race. Genger Henry won the hopping race, was third in the 50-yard dash and second in the scrambled shoe contest. Lorraine McCoy was third in the backwards i - ace and Paula Crehan was third in the scrambled shoe contest. In the race for boys , nine , 10 , and 11 , Steven Herrschaft won the 50-yard dash , the backwaids race , the hopping race , and the cross country race. He was second in the scrambled shoe contest and he and Robert Dorsa won the side by side race and were second in the horse and rider race. Robert was third in the backwards race. Thomas Brischer , Kevin Kelly, Da- vid Myre , Gregory Accetta , Nor- man Friedman , Kevin Kilarik , Vin- cent Davega , Jody Brown , Rob- ert Donnelly and John Randazzo were also winners in this group.
