State Parks The Long Island State Park Commission will sponsor a Horse- shoe Pitching Contest Day at Belmont Lake State Park , Heck- scher State Park , Hempstead Lake State Park and North Valley Stream State Park this Sunday. ' This event is open to Long Is- land residents who have not pre- viously won a firs t place in any Horseshoe Pitching Tournament conducted by the Long Island State Park Commission. The preliminaries will start at 2 p. m. August 6 at Belmont , Heckscher and North Valley Stream , and at 10 a. m. at Hemp- stead. Winners at each of the four parks will meet Sunday, August 13 , to compete for the Long Island State Park Championships. Entries should be made at each of the four parks , preferably at a date prior to the preliminary event , Sunday, August 6. * * * August Children ' s Days will be held at Sunken Meadow State Park Tuesday, August 8 , and at Heckscher State Park Thursday, August 10 , starting with a series of water events at 11 a. m. Prizes for all winners in all event s will be presented. At the conclusion of the competitive events ' , free ice cream will be given to an children who have participated in the Children ' s Day activities. CEUSUS BUREAU SURVE Y A number of local families will be visited by Census Bureau in- terviewers during the first part of August as part of the National Survey of Residential Alterations and Repairs. The survey covers expenditures for additions , alterations , mainte - nance and repairs , and replace- ments on residential properties. Information collected locally will be combined with facts obtained in other sections of the country to provide national estimates. Local interviews in the National Survey of Residential Alterations and Repairs will be conducted by Mrs. Stephanie LeVanda of Baby- lon. Gordon Heights Man Is Injured B y Falling Wall GORDON HEIGHTS — William Cato of Baldwin Road is in fair condition m Beekman Downtown Hospital of Manhattan , after suf- fering injuries when a wall fell on him at a construction site in New York City. Mr. Cato was one of two men injured in the collapse of a 50- foot foundation wall on lowe r Broadway, opposite City Hall in. Manhattan. Killed in the accident was George Simpson , 45 , of Brooklyn. Mr. Cato was one of ei g ht men working with pneumatic drills in the pit of the site of a proposed 29-story office building. The men were on a ledge about 30 feet below the sidewalk. Three men left the group—two to get paid and the other to get a drink of water — shortl y before the wall collapsed with a thun- dering noise about 11 a. m. One man jumped clear , but Mr. Cato was knocked down by the falling debris. Other workers pull- ed Mr. Cato and the second in- jure d man , John Cowan , 37 , of Manhattan , from the bricks and stones. Mr. Simpson ' s body was recov- ered by rescue workers about 2 p. m.
