They deserve a bi g hand along with the adults who were responsible in pai't for their successes. There have been no fires to report this week , up to the time of this writing. I wish to inform his many friends here in Medford, that Jack Hancock has taken up resi- dence in Port Jefferson and , naturally, a switc h in fire depart- ments had to be made. There will be a regular monthl y meeting at 8 p.m. tomorrow. Our park is slowly shap ing up, and the committee has put in lots of hai d work. We hope all resi- dents havee noticed how nice it it looks. The response to our Old Fash- ioned Picnic has been amazing. Tickets are selling very fast-Have you gotte n yours yet? Lots of soft drinks , watching the brown spots and the green crab grass on the lawn and thinking about the month that is left before the school buses start making their early morning rounds. . .Air conditioners going full blast and the frequent com- ment about the humidity . . . The \ really big show \ in Patchogue for August is the annual event called \Patchogue Days \ , and they ' re scheduled for this week- end tomorrow an d Saturday, August 4 and 5. You 'll see colorful red and white banners on the member stores of the Merchants Division , reminding you that this is the two-day bargain event that has become a tradition in Suffolk County. Patchogue Days go back for many years and the long-time residents of the area know that this is the time wheen Patchogu e ' s fine shops go all out to give their customers those special buys that hel p make the family budget go further. But , just one note of cau- tion , quantities and sizes , styles and colors are limited on many of the items so be in Patchogue ear- l y to take advantage of the hun- dreds of specials you 'll find in par- tici pating stores. Oh yes , you Summer folk from the city (that' s an old New England phrase), a very pleasant reminder that you don 't have to pay tha t extra 3 per cent for your purchases here. Despite the heat and the humid- ity, Patchogue shoppers have ac- cepted with good grace and humor the temporary inconvenience in the parking fields off Church and Oak Streets. Unfortunately, the strike has tied up construction not only in Patchogue but all over the Island. The two fields which are pres- ently being developed as part of the Village p lan were well ahead of schedule when the strike stai t- ed and once its over , it will be onl y a matter of days until Pat- chogue has two new parking fields that will gladden the heart of ev- ery shopper. You may be sure that there will be plenty of parking in Patchogue for Patchogue Day is and as a reminder there are two fields that newcomers may not know about. One of these is at the corner of Rider Avenue and Edwards Street and the other off West Avenue just south of Main Street. Both are near the immed- iate business section. One thing about Patchogue is that it never stands still. There ' s always a sense of something go- ing on , something new coming. Right now remodeling work of an extensive nature being done by one of our largest department stores , another brand new , at least in Patchogue , enterprise due soon , new fronts on West Main Street , new businesses on South Ocean , a new theater and several new bus- iness establishments on East Main and continued activity on Medford Avenue. Our office is getting an unusual number of inquiries by prospective new enterprises that want to locate in Patchogue. All these are signs of a lively and d ynamic town . And speaking of lively, don 't forget to step just that way to- morrow and Saturday to take ad- vantage of Patchogue Days , the greatest and most exciting sale event of the year.
