Since 1951 when he left the big band business and formed his tno , tit n*' kiupa and his com- p.u t combo ha\ e played through- out the L' nited States , Hawaii , Japan , Au^tiaha and Fin ope. Dining that time they made moie than 100 lecoids and ha\ e enjo\ - ed a tn mendous leception by the music trade , disc jockeys and > * public alike. In addition to his touis , lecording dates , and con- certs , Gene has appeared in sev- eral movies and p layed his own drum parts on the sound track of the \Gene Krupa Story \ the film depicting the life of Krupa and stalling Sal Mineo. Kiupa is a hard working in- ' -rumtntahst , a perfectionist where music is concerned , who has gained the ri g ht to be called , \The Ace Drummerman. \ Buddy Rich , one of the most colorful peii'oimers m jazz , has won evei . v aw aid possible in his field as a big band drummer and with his small unit . A natural peifoimer , he started work in his parents ' T , aude\ ille act at the age of 18 montl s and has been in the music business ever since. Rich is know n for his beat and emotional impact. His solos are creative and colorful with an originalit y that belong onl y to Buddy Rich. He is a capable singer and tap dancer , and an electric personality. Among his treasured awards are the Metronome Award , 1948 ; Down Beat Award , 1941 , 1942 , and 1914; Esquire Gold Award , 1917; and the Down Beat Critics ' Poll 1953 and 195 1. No stranger to the jazz en- thusiast in this area , Mickey Sheen returns to Dogw ood Hol- low to share the spotlight with Krupa and Rich. One of the most hig hly regarded drummers m the jazz field today, Mickey Sheen and his own internationally fam- ous Jazz All-Stars have appeared regulail y at the Metropole in New ork and at most major jazz festn als in the Fast , as well as making regular appearances at the Embeis , Eddie Condon ' s , Roundtable , Arpeggio and Basin Sheet East. Sheen has been the featured artist on several national and re- gional TV shows, radio , and has made scores of personal appear- ances throughout the East , in- cluding a tour with singer Peggy Lee. Mickey has recorded many albums under his own name , and with the Bi g Three , ( Chubby Jackson , Marty Napoleon and Mickey Sheen). Funeral Services For Mrs. L. F. Orth RIVERHEAD — Funeral ser- vices were held at ,the First Con- gregational Church , Tuesday, f or Mrs. Lois F. Orth of Flanders , the wife of former Southampton Town Justice of the Peace Fred C. Orth . Mrs. Orth , 63 , died in Central Suffolk Hospital Sunday after a short illness. Mr. Orth , who served as a jus - tice in Southampton Town for many years , retired three years ago as cashier and first vice presi- dent of the Hampton Bays Na- tional Bank. Mrs. Orth had been a member of the Riverside Chapter , Order of the Eastern Star , and was act- ive in church activities. In addition to her husband , she ii- survived by one daughter , Mrs. Otis G. Pike of Riverhead , wife of Congressman Otis G. Pike ; one son , F. Allyn Orth of Syracuse , two brothers , Earl Fischer of Ri- \ erhead and G. Kenneth Fischer I of Seaford ; a sister , Mrs. Harold Weber of North Caldwell , N.J., and six grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were I made by the Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home , Riverhead. Industrial Home for Blind Plans Aug. 10 Cake Sale The Industrial Home for the Blind of Patchogue will hold a cake sale from 11 a. m. to 4 p. m. August 10 at the Bee Hive Department Store on East Main Street , Patchogue. Southold Town Police and coun- ty detectives are investigating. The theft was reported Tuesday morning by two Grumman en- gineers , Kurt Hoffmann of El- mont , and Arthur Burk of Flush- ing, who were building the ex- perimental antenna on the Long Island Sound Beach at Orient Point. The two men had begun installing the equi pment Monday. When they returned Tuesday to finish the job , thty found the equi pment gone. About 1 , 500 feet of cable , a lum inum sheeting, and coaxial cables and couples were taken , police said.
