Mr. and Mrs. Louis Potter , Sr., WESTHAMPTON BEACH — An off-duty New York Cit y police officer shot and killed a 1 5-foot thrasher shark last Wednesday after it had been pulled out of the surf by two men. The shark was first spot- ted in shallow water off Dune Road , when bathers saw it and reported to Wcsthamp- ton Beach Village Police. While swimmers were alert- ed , the shark was pulled out of the water by two men. Lt. Edga r Perry, vacationing in Westhampton Beach , pulled his service pistol and fired three times at the shark , kill- ing it instantly. Later , the shark was buri- ed in a deep hole on the beach. Kill 15-Foot S hark At W'hampton Bch. North U psets Rebels in Civil War Softball Tilt The Civil War was fought again Sunday, but this time on a softball field. A group of busi- nessmen from Ronkonkoma p layed a softball game to commemorate the Civil War battle of Bull Run . The Civil War Vets , managed b y former Brookhaven Town Clerk Art McComb , represented the South and lost to the North , Bru- no ' s Tavern , 8-7. \South of Church Street in Ron- konkoma was our Mason Dixon line , \ Mr. McComb said. The Vets enjoyed early jubila- tion as they exploded for four runs in the first inning on six hits. They added another three in the fourth. Bruno ' s , however , kept peeking away at the lead. The Yankees scored one in the second and three in the fourth to' narrow the score to 7-4. They added another two in the sixth and took the game with two runs in the seventh in- ning of the nine inning game. Al Campell hit a home run to tie the game in the seventh in- ning for Bruno ' s. The gamo was marked by many sparkling fielding plays. Duke Mulvehiil made two tine running catc 'hes. Mu ' .vehill , who hasn ' t played in. two years , also got three hits. of 370 Oak Street and grandson , Richard Rothe , have just returned from a cruise aboard their boat , Doodle. They visited many places of interest such as Say brooke Harbor , Mystic , Conn., Watch Hill , R. I., Block Island , Montauk , Three Mile Harbor , Doering Har- bor and Shinnecock. Accompany- ing them in their boats were Mr. and Mrs. Walter M'ilian and fam- ily of Patchogue , Mr. and Mrs. Leo Redman and family of Cen- ter Moriches and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lutz and family of Port Jefferson. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Chamber- lain , Jr., have purchased a home at 232 Schocnfcld Boulevard . They f ormerl y lived at 5 Northridge Street. Mrs. Lucille Dobson , who has been a patient in Memorial Hos- pital in New York City, is now at her home recuperating after a serious illness. The Women of the Moose , Pat- chogue Chapter 476 , met July 26 at Moose Hall , North Ocean Ave- nue , for its monthl y meeting with M;rs. Mary Calfa , senior regent , presiding. The Early Bird award was received b y Mrs. Theresa Truman. Mrs. Calfa congratulated Mrs. Rose Felice for the outstand- ing fund raising projects through- out the years and presented her with a gift. An announcement was made to the chapter of the anniversary dinner to be held in Sep tember. After the meeting a surprise birthday party was held in the rumpus room honoring Mesdames Margaret Downs , Cha- rlotte Gallo , Eileen Measor , Joan Hewitt, Ida Robertson , Charlotte Worthington , and Helen Bittner. The decorations were in a color- ful birthday motif. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Isabelle Buck! , chairma n , and members of the College of Regents.
