Bellport Explorer Scouts Plan 9-Day Camping Trip Explorers of the Suffolk Count y Council are taking full advantage of the out-of-doors this Summer it was reported this week by Frank Aikman of Amityville , chairman of the Council' s activities commit- tee. \Dominating their Summer ac- tivities , \ Mr. Aikman reported , \ are outdoor activities that vary from expeditions to cruises and local coed activities. Exp lorers were busy for months checking equipment , travel routes , arrang- ing transportation and dozens of other details involved in these ac- tivities. \ Mr. Aikman said that Exp lorers who remain at home have meet- ings of an informal nature . Then- activities are mostl y of the spur- of-the moment type needing little planning and preparation. These activities , while not highl y orga- nized , keep the Explorers together ready for the more exhilarating pace which always comes in the Fall , he exp lained. Several Exp lorer posts , needing funds for their Summer expedi- tions , have been conducting a car wash business in empty lots. They wash the cars of friends and rela- tives who have the satisfaction of knowing they are supporting a \ pay-as-you-go \ activit y. In Sep tember the Exp lorers of Post 28 , will hike over the Applachian Trail from the Delaware Water Gap to the Culver Gap. 'Boy With Cart ' At Presbyterian Church Sunday BROOKHAVEN — An unusual experiment in Christian worship will be undertaken at 10 a. m, Sunday in the sanctuary of the Brookhaven-South Haven ' Presby- terian Church when The Play- c rafters of Bellport cooperate with the local church in a pre- sentation of the Christopher Fry verse p lay, \The Boy With A Cart . \ All worshippers are invited to attend the chancel drama. The use of drama in Christian worshi p has greatl y revived in recent decades , plays being writ- ten for this specific purpose by such authors as Mr. Fry, C. S. Lewis , and T. S. Eliot. Many of the Protestant seminaries are now offering courses in reli g ious drama to their ministerial students , a new recognition of the close bond which has traditionall y drawn to- gether the church and the arts. \The Boy With a Cart\ tells the story of St. Cuthman , a lay- man who lived many centuries ago in Cornwall , England. Upon his father ' s death , while Cuthman is still a boy, he wanders across five counties , carrying his aged moth- er behind him in a cart. At the direction of God , he stops in the village of Steyning and there builds a church. The author of the play, Mr. Fry, has constructed his one-hour drama around these simp le events , believing that the story of St. Cuthman has impor- tant religious values for modern times. One critic has pointed out that Mr. Fry has tried to show that it is onl y through faith , con- fidence , and love that modem man can find joy in living- and solve the problems that weigh him down. It is the Experimental Theatre of The Playcrafters which will perform the p lay, under the direc- tion of William Reynolds. The service in the church will be open- ed and closed with prayer , and the regular Sunday offering will be received. I ^H B LJ^^ X I^^^^HB^ M mmmm ^^^^^^mmm\M ^mmr 9 ^\?^^^HBm mmmml \ n^.
