Cohan ' s de- lig htful comedy, \The T avern. \ Tluoughout APA' s Summer tour , this show hab consistently been the most popular with audiences and has drawn rave reviews from Boston to Bucks County, Pa. \The Ta\ ern \ is George M. Co- han ' s action-packed builesque on the 18!>0' s melodiama and as such is as humorous and hilarious to audience^ today as it was when it opened in 1920 , playing out a long Broadway run. The play pre- serves the suspense of the old pop- ular melodramas while at the same time making fun of their complex plots. The setting is a lonely road- side tavern during a stormy night and the characters involved in- clude , the ow ner , his terrified son , a hired hand and numerous other guests who arrive hoping to seek shelter from the raging weather. The most interesting guest of all is The Vagabond , a mysterious traveler who answers questions with riddles , charms the women in the play, and faces up to the guns of the villains with a reck- less abandonment. Playing the part originally por- trayed by George I\T. Cohan him- self is George Grizzard , one of the most promising of the new Broadway actors. \The Tavern \ will play Mon- day. Aug. 14 thru Thursday, Aug. 17 * and then be followed on Fri- day, Aug. 18 by \The School for Scandal\ and on Saturday, Aug. 19 \Twelfth Night\ will be pre- sented. APA is using its repertory status to alternate the shows on the w eekend thereby display ing the facility with which they can \ai y their roles and g iving week- end ' visitors to the Hamptons an opportunity to see all three plays. The information collected from local families will be combined with that collected in 332 other areas of the country to provide the national estimates. Approxi- mately 35 ,000 households are in- cluded each month in the Current Population Survey. These house- holds are selected at random under the Census Bureau ' s scientific sampling program to provide a representative cross-section of all classes of the population , and all types of areas in the country — large cities , small towns , rural areas , and so forth.
