J, Frances Johnson Voted the most popular Summer word in the dictionary is barbe- cue — some times spelled barbe- que and then the more eye arrest- ing Bar-B-Que. But we 'll string along with Mr. Webster and spell it barbecue. But no matter how you spell it , barbecue has become an import- ant word in the American Way of Life. Cooking with barbecue sauce is one of the delightful ways of pre- paring food. And then the outdoor barbecue is used by dozens of fam- ilies almost every clear day. And when it rains a bit they just move it to the patio and go right ahead. It' s fun and allows the man of the house to show his skill at out- door cooking. Our recipe for Barbecue Spare Ribs (No cook sauce) is one that every housewife should add to her meal planning, Winter or Summer. It is cooked in the oven and can be easily served hot indoors or out. This, is a favorite recipe of Mrs. Frances Sposato of 55 Bogota Road , Mastic Beach. Mrs. Sposato , who is secretary of St. Jude ' s R. C. Church Altar Societ y, Mastic Beach , is one of those excellent cooks , as her reci pe proves. Try it this weekend. BARBECUE SPARE RIBS (NO COOK SAUCE) Parboil 2 pounds spaie ribb for twenty minutes , drain. Combine : % cup catsup % cup water 2 tablespoons vinegar 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce 1 tablespoon salt dash cayenne (optional) v 2 teaspoon black pepper Pour sauce over ribs and cook covered for iy 2 hours at 350 oven , baste a few times during cooking.
