This body has been ihustemd the Noith Patchogue Council of Oiganizations. It will be non -politual in character, yet ha\e lepiesontation from political clubs of both parties in at- tendani e. Alain purpose of the club is to ait as a clearing house and co- oidmatin g bod y for civic miproy e- nu nt and community betterment m tne North Patchogue area. Mem- ber clubs will bung their civic piohlems to the council , and mem- ber clubs ' delegates , in turn , will put these problems befoi e their clubs for consideiation and action. It is the council' s intention to call upon town officials or any- one who may be able to give it aid and assistance in working on any project which may come to its attention Tow n Councilman Howard Row- land and Toyy n Hig hyvay Super- intendent Chailes W. Barraud have amende 1 meetings to hel p with the project which involved the extension of Patchogue Avenue to its mapped tei minus at Old North Ocean Avenue as pioposed by the Canaan Lake Beach Community Club. The need for this extension is in the area of public safety, a it yyill 1 educe the traffic on Dam Road, which crosses Canaan Lake, the council was told. Chil- j -dren play and swi m there. The extension would also enable emer- gency vehicles to enter the area at least 10 minutes sooner , which could in many cases prevent the loss of a life or property, it was pointed out. Frank Fufaro , past-president and present chairman of the board of directors of the Community Club , will appear before the town coun- cil shortly to state the case to the members. N. P. Harold Halsted , of Bellport skippered his yacht , \Chuck- le \ , to victoiy Tuesday in the opening race of the \ North American Star Class Sailing Champ ionship off Toronto. Mr. Halsted represents the Bell port Yacht Club. He out- sailed a colorful 40-boat fleet including many foimer world , Ol ympir and North American champions. CM Man Asks Board For Li g ht To Halt Vandals A Center Moriches resident ask- ed the Brookhaven Town Board this week to p lace a street light on the public dock on Lake Ave- nue \ as a deteirent to occasional acts of vandalism. \ In a letter read Tuesday to the board Chester G. Osborne of Lake Avenue said idlers are congregat- ing on the dock at various times. He noted another person ' s sugges- tion that a sign , \No Parking Af ter 9 p. m. \ be p laced on the dock. He urged that there should be more frequent checks of the area by the police. Among the acts of vandalism he cited was that a county police boat and another craft u ere smeared with paint. In another matter J. L. Herbert , secretary of tho Moriches Yacht Club , wi ote to the board asking that the board install a red light on the east side of Senix Creek and that the intensity of the light on the west side be increased. Both com ' munications were re- ferred to Councilman Harold Chapman. Eloquent Plea Asks Town to Rehabilitate Twin Lakes ' Area MASTIC — An eloquent plea for Brookhaven Town Beard ac- tion to improve the \Twin Lakes \ was heard by the board Tuesday . In a letter to the board Mrs . Rita Rech of Fulton Avenue , com- mended the board \ on your suc- cessful efforts to rehabilitate Mill Pond in East Moriches and estab- lish the present Kaler ' s Pond. \ She asked that the board turn its \ attention and efforts next to that beautiful little spot in the Moriches-Mastic area , known as 'Twin Lakes * . \ She said , \The peop le of this vicinity have no swimming area they can call their own. \It does not seem right that one of God' s own natural spots \ Mrs. Rech continued , \ should be left solely for the use of one or two farmers , who look on it as theirs exclusively, to b r e e ed and carry out the waste of their com- modity, namely, ducks. tC_ Ti . 1 !•*• .. . _ . __ v > *J } ~ ~ V - — - - .- J - \God did not intend tne lakes to be used for a duck canal , where fish , must of necessit y, turn their bottoms up to the &ky, and die.
