Robbers Hit Haven Grill For $3 , 200 BROOKHAVEN—Two masked men robbed the Haven Grill on the Alontauk Highway here of $3 , 200 at gunpoint Monday ni g ht and escaped in a car , Fifth Precinct police said. Police said three women in the grill at the time were forced into the men ' s wash room. As the ban- dits left the building, one of them , police said , fired a shotgun blast through the door at the door-knob level , but no one was injured. \This is a holdup, \ one of the men was reported as saying when they walked into the grill about 10 p.m. One man carried what appeared to be a shotgun and the other a rifle , the women told police , and both men wore masks of women ' s silk stockings pulled over their heads. One of the women was motioned behind the bar, police said, while a bandit took $43.45 from the cash register. 1 wo of the women , Ella Scale and Josephine Bandi , were held in the main room of the grill b y one of the gunman. The second robber , police said , took the proprietress , Airs. Sophia Ostrow , who lives at the grill , to the back room and forced her to g ive him $3 , 156.55 from her cash box. Bringing Mrs. Ostrow back to the main room , the bandits, police said, told the three women to get in the men ' s room and ''just stay there. \ To emphasize their order , police said , one of the men fired a shotgun blast into the door . The women told police they heard a ear drive away fast after the men left. In leaving, police said , the men took three bottles of liquor from the bar. The women described the rob- bers to the police as being be- tween 25 and 30 years of age. Police said the women said one man was about six feet and stocky and the other about 5 feet ei g ht inches in heig ht and slim. When the robbery was reported , Patrolman Alfred Ciciulla was dispatched to the scone and Fifth Squad detectives were notified . Burch AIcAlorran. state superintendent of public w orks , has announced recei pt oi a low bid of $3 , 474 , 00 from Karl Koch Erecting Company, Inc., of the Bronx , for construction of the 27-span superstructure of the Fin- Island Inlet Brid ge , connecting Fire Island w r ith Captree State Parkway and Ocean Parkway near Captree State Park. Four bids were received. The brid ge will have a 26-foot- wide concrete slab roadway with a three- foot-wide sidewalk on the western side. The span over the main channel of the inlet will be 600 feet long, 66 feet above mean sea level , and flanked b y two 233- foot-long spans. These three span^ will be of tied-arch cantilevered construction and the other 24 spans will be of girder and beam construction. The latter will in- clude 22 spans each 138 feet long and two 45-foot-long spans , for a total length of 4 , 192 feet for all 27 spans. Work is expected to begin shortly after a contract will be executed . Th° contract will be awarded , following a routine check by state engineers of all bids re- ceived , to the contractor who is found to have submitted the low- est va 'id bid. State Archery Title TERMED SENSATIONA L WIN: . ¦ — r Laura Demarest Laura Demarest , daug hter of Air. and Airs. Calvin Demarest of Bieselin Road , Bell port , took top spot in the Junior Girls Division of the New York State Annual Field Archery Championship held at Watkins Clen last weekend. This talented youngster , who is 12 years old, scored a sensational win at the Tournament , which was attended by 6 8 7 contestants. Laura ' s aggregate score of 595 , which won her the title, not only broke the previous record by more than 200 points , but also was 46 points hig her than the Intermedi- ate Girls Champion , the next divi- sion , which includes girls up to 16 years ot age. The field tournament is shot on courses ot 28 targets set up on hay bales along trails through the deep woods of the State Forest. A course is about two miles long, and takes about three hours to comp lete. The archers shoot in groups of four , not unlike golfers. Saturday morning the field round is shot , using targets with con- centric circles , and in the after- noon the hunter round is shot , using all black targets , except for a small white spot in the center. On Sunday morning comes the final animal round , in which life size colored targets of animals are shot at. Laura won firs t p lace medals for each of the three rounds as well as the trop h y for the total score. She made hor own arrows , which she comp leted a f ew days before leaving for the sta te tournament. She has been shooting for two years , coached by Alalcolm John- son of Bellport. Of the nine tournaments in which Laura has competed , she has won a first place in all of them , and has also taken part in a number of archery exhibitions on the island. Police said that the driver , Wood row W. Bell , -IS , of \6 Bridge Avenue , Patchogue , told them he was trying to move his car in the parking lot of the establishment and the accelerator pedal stuck , causing the auto to continue for- ward. The vehicle st ruck the front of the building, broke the glass and pushed in the brick base , police reported. Accelerator Sticks Car Strikes Front Of Bell port Casino BELLPORT — James Harmon Lott, of 18 Bell port Lane , here who was injured August 12 when he was involved in a train-car acci- dent in Hagerman , died late last Wednesday at Brookhaven Memor- ial Hospital , East Patchogue. He was 75. The accident happened shortl y before 4 p. m. at Champ lin Avenue and the Long Island Rail Road tracks when a westbound train was in collision with the left rear of the car Mr. Lott was driving, according to the Suffolk County Police. Mr. Lott was taken to the hospital in the Bellport Fire De- partment Ambulance. Funera l services were held Fri- day at the Ruland Funeral Home , Patchogue , with the Rev. Fred- erick T. Smith , pastor of the Bell- port Methodist Church , officiating. There was a private cremation. Mr. Lott retired 10 years ago after serving 40 years on the New- York Universit y administrative staff. He served most recently as supervisor of properties at NlU. He also managed the NYU book store. Mr . Lott was a graduate of NYU College of Engineering, class of IJ>11 , and a member of Zeta Psi fraternity. Born in Brooklyn , he lived here 11 years. There are no immediate survivors.
