Orr , principal of William Floyd High School, has boon a p p o i n t e d coordinator of boys * athletics for the Suffolk County Catholic Youth Organiza- tion , the Rev . Gerald J. Ryan, di- rector of the CYO organization for the Diocese of Roekville Cen- tre, has announced. Besides his duties as princi pal . M.r. Orr also teaches a course in ninth grade social studies at Wil- liam Floyd. A former varsity foot- ball coach at William Floyd , he gave up tint post when he was appointed princi pal. Mr. Orr has been a CYO bas- ke tball coach, and his team, repre- senting St. Lawrence Parish of Sayville , \ has been Grammar Div- ision Champ ion of the Roekville Centre Diocese. He has also been officiating both in basketball and football games. He has coached football at Betbpage School. Before entering the fields of teaching and coaching. Mr. On- served with the U.S. Marines dur- ing World War II in the Pacific Theater. Returning to Brooklyn College after lhe war , he played football for three years and re- ceived his Master ' s Degree from Fordham University. He was re- cently given a state grant to st ; idv Russian at Fordham University. Father Ryan and Mr. Orr hope to be able to organize the Cath- olic parishes in Suffolk into two (Eastern and Western ) Grammar Division Basketball Leagues. They also intend to stimulate interest in many of the seasonal events in other sports such as track and swimming. The program was start- ed last year under the direction of Jim Green , diocesan athletic coordinator. Mr. Orr will be available at his office in Riverhead Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30 p. m. and at the Bay Shore office of Catholic Charities Thursday even- ings from 7:30 to 9:30 p. m. Interested parties may call dur- ing these hours for information about schedules , legues , facilities and other CYO activities. The meeting, called by Joseph Gratz , chamber president , is for the purpose of discussing the slums on Railroad Avenue , Cen- ter Moiiehes; the itinerant \Dodga Cit y \ buildings , recentl y moved to C eiuer Moriches; increased police protectio n for the Mor.ches and provision of additional parking pace in Center Moriches. Frank Papaianni has been nomin- ated for the office of secretary, left vacant by the resignation of John Rosso. Nominated directors are : J. Jo- seph Gomez , John Bates , Charles Sullivan , J. Wesley Sinnickson , Harry Carmer , Roger Ruisi and John Cummings. Mr. Gratz has announced that Stanley Abrams , supervising prin- cipal of Center Moriches Schools , has asked and received permission from the chamber to answer ques- tions from the floor on the Union Free School District 33 , two part bond proposition. District 33 tax- payers were asked last week to consider the purchase of three acres of land belonging to St. John ' s parish for the erection and equi pping of a six room addition to the elementary school. Miss Bruno Is Choice To Lead Local Chamber CENTER MORICHES — With the election of new officers of the Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches toni ght , the duties of presi- dent will , in all likelihood , fall into the capable hands of Miss Minnie Bruno, the organization ' s out-going vice president and unanimous choice for president at nomin ation time. Miss Bruno , who makes her home in Riverhead , has been an active member of the local business com- munity since 194 1 , when she went to work for the Center Moriches Bank as a secretary. Promoted to assistant cashier that same year , Miss Bruno in 1949 was named a director , following the merger of the Center Moriches Bank and Eastport National Bank under the name of South Bay Bank, fn 1 950 , the South Bay Bank merg- ed with the Security National Bank , and Miss Bruno was made an assistant vice president of the Security National Bank. In 1959 , she was named vice president of The Security National Bank and manager of its Center Moriches office , her present position. Born in Ital y while her mother was on a visit , Miss Bruno came to the United States when she was nine months old. She attend- ed grade school in East Moriches and Center Moriches High School . With predicted tides of three to six feet above normal , 43 resi- dents of low-l y ing portions of Mastic Beach were evacuated to Mastic Beach Fire House on Neighborhood Road , according to Fire Commissioner Joseph Som- mers. Mr. Sommers said that a teenage boy passed the evening drawing sketches of fellow eva- cuees , and that those put up for the night in the firehouse took it pretty much in stride. They re- turned home last Thursday after- noon to find their houses intact. The nig ht of the storm held 'its share of suspense and aggrava- tion for the Mastic Beach vamps. Martin Fehner of Wading River Road , Manorville reported Sunday, police said , that an electrical pow- er unit was burglarized recently from the Manorville home of Ed- ward Gilcrest of Rockvi'le Centre. Mr. Fehner , who is the caretaker of the house , said the unit is valu- ed at $400 and was taken from a shed in the rear of the building. Patrolman Fletcher A. Baldwin in- vestigated. Patrolman Henry Allers investi- gated a report by Richard Bielski of Barnes Road , Moriches , that two guns , totalling $70 in value , were stolen from his home between 8 a m. Friday and 4 p. m. Sunday. Police said entry was gained through an unlocked front door. According to police a Winchester rifle , valued at $70 and an air gun , worth $15 , were taken. Mr. Bielski told police that his name is inscribed on the stock of each gun. Paul Pleva of North Street Manorville. reported to police that 34 p ieces of two by four lumber , valued at $21.76 , were stolen last Thursday or Friday from a North Street site Patrolman Eugene G. Goll investigated. Patrolman Nelson L. Collins , Jr. investigated the report by Dan Knowles of Manor Drive , Shirley that 80 daily newspapers , valued at $3.20. were stolen from in fron : oi the Grocery Mart , Shirley on Saturday.
