J. youth is in fair condition at Bayviexv Hospital , Mastic Beach , after receiving a chin laceration l equiring- 55 stitches when the car he was driving overturned here early Sunday, Fifth Precinct police said. Police said that the boy, Olav Pedersen , told them he fell asleep at the wheel of his 1957 auto as he was travelling- east on Sunrise Highway about 4:30 a. m. Sunday. Police said the vehicle crossed the center mall and the opposite traffi c lanes and overturned on the north side of the highway about 200 feet xvest of Upton Boulevard. The Brookhaven Fire Department , po- lice said , xvas called to put out a fire in the car. Passengers in the car , Leo Don- nell , 16; Michael Dominy, 17 , and Thomas Whalen , 19 , all ' of Brook- l yn , suffered bruises , police said, and were treated at the hospita l and released. Wallace Thomas , supervis- ing principal of William Floyd Schools , reports that txv o families from Shirley and one from Mastic Beach were put up for the nig ht at an emergency center set up at William Floyd ' School. The Wil- liam Floyd Annex on Montauk Hi ghway was also ready to re- ceive families seeking refuge from rising tides , but none xvas forced to use the facilities. John Molan- der , custodian at the annex , and William Hall , Floyd custodian , were on duty through the night. I Now that the Hurri cane and its after-effects on the utility lines are now history , I wish to ' - express my sincere and deep appreciation to all those involved. 1 First , to our customers for their patience and understanding of the many problems we I faced in the restoration of PELCO service. 1 Second , to those who p itched in to hel p us cope with the huge task left in the wake of the 1 \ storm , incl u ding the various outside crews , such as those from the Niagara - Mohawk and New ! York State Electric and Gas systems , Pett y & Worrad , and the Dennis Maud Tree Surgeon firm. i Third , to the various Town and Village officials , the Volunteer Fire Departments , the Suf- I H = = ' folk County Police Department , the Civil Defense organization and the many, many others , each 1 \ of whom offered encouraging support and othe r aid in the emergency. 1 , Last , but not least , to the entire personnel of PELCO , who , like all the others , showed ' courage and devotion to duty, and worked tirelessl y throug hout the ordeal so that the public 1 ! mig ht be served.
