Police Arrest Continued from page 1 . this section ed the money in a paper bag as she was instructed to do , police said , and was told to stay in the back room for five minutes. She has been a clerk in the store for about one and one- ' . -alf years . When the men had left , police s-aid , Mrs. Ryan called the store manager , Mrs. Ethel Powers of Patehoeue . Police said Mrs. Pow- ers rode a cab of Sandy ' s Taxi Corp. toward the stoie. Arrhing at the intersection of North Ocean Avenue and Main Stieet. one of tlie persons in the cab shouted at Patrolman Larry Hawes , standing at Four Corners , police said , and asked if they could make a left tuin irom Ocea n Avenue on a red light because of a reported robbery at Loft' s store. Immedi- ately. Patrolman Hawes called the Fifth Precinct desk , and asked Sgt. Ralph Lanese if a robbery had been reported. Since no call had come into the precinct , police said , Sgt . Lanese called police headquarters and dispatched three patrol cars to the scene. Meanwhile , Mrs . Powers had continued to the store where she found Mrs. Ryan unharmed , police said. Check Railroad According to police Patrolman Rupert Behan got a tip that two men had been seen running south on South Ocean Avenue. Sgt. Pa- trick McPride , Patrolman Thomas Dwen and Patrolman Behan con- verged on the Patchogue railroad station in police cars. Sgt. Mc- Bride said he saw two men get on an east bound train from the north side of the tracks where the train was halted at the station. Sgt. McBride dashed to the sta- tion. Patrolman Dwen got on the west, end of the train. Patrolman Behan entered the train from the east <Mid. Patrolman Dwen said lie entered the next to last car. and saw two men seated with their backs to him who answered the description given b y Mrs. Ryan The officer said he stepped in front of them, drew his gun , told 'hem thev were under arrest and instructed tl em to stand up with their hands on the baggage rack. Sgt . MeBride searched the men and handcuffs were placed on the defendants . A fter running through about seven cars. Patrolman Be- han came into the car and as- sisted in taking the men back to the Fift h Precinct. The defen- dants were questioned bv Det. Sgt . Robert McClearv and bets. Ed- ward Mayer and Thomas Meyer , who are in charge of the investi- gation. S. Army Corps of Engineers to ask that the corps request auth- orization from Congress to ex- extend the 100-f oot width limit for dredging in Patchogue River. In its letter the board called \in- adequate \ the dredged width and depth of the river. The board wrote the corps again on the re- commendation of U.S. Representa- tive Otis Pike. The board awarded the contract for an accounting machine to Burrough' s , who submitted a bid of $6 , 651.60 , reserved decision on a snow thrower and pay loader until October 9 , and called for new bids to be opened October 9 on a two-ton dump truck. After a long discussion the board voted to extend the pay of Jo«eph Hawk for another four weeks. The pay of the sewage dis- posal plant operator , who is ill in a Brookl yn hospital, was scheduled to end yesterday. By having his pay extended Mi. Comm , College Continued from page 1 , this section staining to \ go on record as re- questing the Count y Board of Su- pervisors to suggest to the board of trustees of Suffolk County Communit y College that the post office of Farmingville be designat- ed as the mailing address of the college. \ The Farmingville-Holtsville Civic Tax Payers Association has spear- headed the drive to have Farming- ville named as the college ' s postal address. The association contends the college, now on the former site of Suffolk County Sanator- ium , was located as being in Farmingville by a May, \ 1960 county resolution authorizing the count y executive to dispose of the sanatorium site. On the other hand the Selden Civic Association argues that the college is in the Selden fire , school , lighting and election districts and has a SElden telephone exchange. the 55-year p lan of the village. At the suggestion of Villag\ Attorney Robert Bauer the depu- ty village clerk was authorized to write the Long Island Rail Road, asking what safety precautions are being taken at the River Ave- nue crossing when the crossing- guard is off dut y. He - a id that vandalism and malicious mischief also existed befo .e establishment of the Suffolk County Police Do- pal uncut, but that the problem has increa sed partly because oJ more persons coming into the Pat- chogue area. Expres sing the need for more adequate police prot ection in the \i 'lage , Mayor Waldbauer said it may be neces-ary for municipali- ties to ask for an \ ami ndment\ in the charter setting up the Suf- folk Count y police. Such a change might be expected to permit vil- lages to hire law enforcement of- ficers who would w ork with the county police. Parking Ban A public hearing was set for October I) at 8 p. m. in the Village Hall on a proposed ordi- nance to foi Lid parking on the west sid( o » ' South Ocean Avenue iiom Main Street to the northern boundaiy of Foar Sisters Com- munit y Center. Since Sep tember IS no parking or standing has been permitted on the west side of the heavil y travelled thoroughfare ex- cept on Sundays and holidays. The board accepted the mayor ' s recom- mendation that Sunday should be the only exception to the parking ban. In discussing the proposed ordi- nance , Mr. Waldbauer reported that the only opposition to the parking prohibition had been ex- pressed by proprietors of Robert' s Stationery stoie at 12 South Ocean Avenue , who, he said , had told him they were losing business be- cause of the board' s decision. The store is located on the west side of the avenue. Bay A\enue Parking. On another parking matter Mayor Waldbauer said the board is contemplating passing an ordi- nance prohibiting parking on the west side of Bay Avenue. He in- structed the deputy village clerk to write Richard Woodhull of the Nev York Telephone Company, re- questing a report from the firm ' s engineeis on the parking situation. The company has a building on the w> -t side of Bav Avenue.
