Scouts Gather , Hold Round.able CENTER MORICHES — A Peconic Bay District Roundtable meeting for Cub Scouts Boy- Scouts and Explorers was held at the Center Moriches High School last Thursday. District Commis- sioner , Michael Mc Garvey presi- ded arc! about 100 attended , inclu- ding Boy Scout and Cub Scout lea- ders , Explorer advisors , den mo- thers and uniformed »- .oys. The meeting opened with a sa- lute to the American flag. A spe- cial film stri p was shown on how a Webelos den can be formed. Ger- ald Hobson , assistant district com- missioner , demonstrate d games and magic and led everyone through a few Cub Scout songs from pr.nted sheets he distributed. Pack 23 of Center Moriches dis- played horses heads and cows heads which they made at dun meetings. They have been designed to fit over a boy ' s head and were used as part of their costumes at the Peconic District ExposiCon Parade in Southold in May. The theme of the exposition was \Strengthen Amer- ica. \ Pack 23 chose to entitle its float , \Farmers Strengthen Amer- ica. \ The evenings program was hig h- lighted by a presentation of \The Scouter ' s Training Award , \ an outstanding award , to Jack Wolf- enden , scoutmaster of Troop 23 of Center Moriches. The Boy Scout leaders discussed p lans and prepared for next month' s scouting under the theme , \To Help Other People. \ They made plans for participation at the Camp Paquatuck Peconic Bay Dis- trict Fall Camporee to be held at the camp on October 20, 21 and 22. The advancement program and a specialization of merit badge coun- selors was also discussed. The Cub Scout leaders also dis- cussed next month' s scouting pro- gram with \Magic \ as November ' s theme. Plans were discussed b y Ex- plorer leaders for participation at the Camporee and a possibility of the boys taking part at the Na- tional Rifle Association ' s rifle match , as a district activity. An election took place for Peconic Bay Explorer cabinet officers. Elected were John H. Maddock , Jr., Post 248 , chairman; Bob Furman , Squa- dron 142 , vice chairman and Rich- ard Llewellyn , Post 39 , secretary. Mrs. Genevieve Halliday, who was accompanied by Mrs. Kath- leen Merrill and Mrs. Josephine O'Brien , all from Amagansett , was awarded a Cub Scout handkerchief for driving to the Center Moriches meeting from the furthest point in the district of the cub scout di- vision , and William Schriever , scoutmaster , who is starting a new troop in Orient Point , was given an award for driving from the fur- thest point in the Boy Scout di- vision from Orient Point. The Pe- conic District extends from Wading River to Orient Point on the North Shore and from Mastic to Montauk Point on the South Shore. The next roundtable meeting will take p lace at Sag Harbor. Shadow Play Presented For Cubs and Parents MASTIC — About 50 parents and 40 Cubs attended a pack meet- ing of Mastic Cub Scout Troop 262 held recently at the Brookha- ven Town Recreation Center on Classon Avenue. Committeeman George Villafa- nez and Albert Fahie and Cub- master Harry Holdy presented a comical shadow play. The following items were discussed to be included at the Christmas Sale and Food Sale scheduled for November 18 , at the parish hall: pies , cakes , cookies , candies , Christ- mas articles , aprons , pillow cases and white elephants. Those attending the meet- ing were Mesdames James White , Clarence Ross , William Robinson , George Pirie and Mrs. Frank G.
