There were seven boys present. The meeting was opened with the Cub Scout Promise. This was the first \ get aquainted\ meeting of the season. Mrs. Blechner told the story of Rip Van Winkle and dis- cussions followed on what to pre- pare for this month ' s theme , \Sleepy Hollow Land. \ Fire pre- vention was also discussed , and the boys were asked to look for fire hazards at home. A game was played out-of-doors , and refresh- ments were served. The Cub Scout Committee held a meeting at the home of Mrs. Janet Han ford at Lake Avenue at 8 p. m. October 3. Jack Wolfenden , chairma n , announced that 34 boys requested membership blanks to become cub scouts . At present there are just three den mothers and two hel pers assigned. Since it is impossible to fullfiil a cub scout program with such minimum lea- dership, it was decided to hold a special meeting for parents of new- cub scouts at 8 p. m., Tuesday, at Center Moriches High School. It is urgent that the parents attend. It is hoped that some mothers can spare but one hour each week to hel p supez-vise these eager boys. One need not be experienced. A book is issued to each den mother, and a monthly is published with planned programs which simplify each meeting. Anyone interested may call Jack Wolfenden at Atlan- tic 4-0515. The pack is also with - out a cubmaster and assistant cub- master. A man is needed for each of those positions. At present , Jack Wolfenden , who is scoutmaster, is temporarily acting as cubmas- ter. It is hoped that two volunteers will fill this gap.
