An intevebtinu , schedule of new films on music has been arranged for studying music. The eighth grade hab enjoyed , \Folk Songs oi America ' s History, \ a film p lanned tc con elate w ith social studies in eighth grade. Films scheduled in- clude some on how to read music , instiuments of the oichestra , and the life of Beethoven. A series of assembly programs is scheduled lor both the North and South schools. Sevez*al programs have alread y been attended by the student bodies of both schools and two programs are scheduled for October iS and 19. The programs ior these dates will include a de- monstration of trends in science to be given by an expert in this field. Also , a film , \Herao the Magnifi- cent , \ will be seen. On October 13 the seventh grade assembly cov- ered the topic of local government. Mayor Robert Waldbauer of Patch- ogue and Brookhaven Town Super- visor August Stout participated in the program. As a result of a campai gn to form a Latin Club in the North Sc hool , 23 interested students ap- plied for membershi p. At the first meeting to be held in the near future , the goals of the club will be set by the members. Carleton San- born will be the facult y advisor for the club and he will be assisted by Mrs. Marie Simone , the adviser of the South School French Club . Re- ports on Roman life and Roman Mythology to be presented to the Latin Club are being prepared by Barbara Schumpf and Janet Con- way. : * f : * : A The English 9 classes have been working on a unit concerning the short story. Besides deriving p lea- sure from the many entertaining stories read and discussed , the clas- ses are working toward an under- standing of the form and writers ' techniques , and also the ability to distinguish good writing from poor writing. Recently the students of the home economics classes held an open house for the faculty. Cakes , cupcakes and punch , prepared by the students j W ere -erved by the students from a table arranged in buffet style. Some of the stud- ents involved in the open house were : Pam Mistier, Georgeanne Clay, Rosalie FoncVllino , Janet Tay lor , Susan Holz , Mildied Rat- tmger , Helen Martinez , Kathleen Lewis , Henrietta Jones , Lucy Pre- biaca , Patricia Coleman and Sharon Chr istop herson. On Saturday, 1 Mascot and 49 members of the Patchogue Junior High Chapter attended the Future Homemakers of Ameiica Fall rally at IL'ckscher State Park. The girls were accompanied by their ad\ isors , Miss Bonzelle Ah- lenius , Mrs. Catheryn Dowling, Mrs. Ruth Ristich , Miss Alma Smith and Mrs. Dowling ' s two- year-old son. The theme of the rally was \Alertness Today For A Better To- morrow. \ To carry out this theme , Patchogue Junior Hi gh School in- vited Michael Faherty to be the guest speaker for the rall y. Mr. Fahert y, a radio announcer for W- PAC in Patchogue , spoke about his experiences while living in a Fall- out Shelter for one week. Other program features included the emblem ceremony, New York State convention report, a display of a survival shelf of food , distii- bution of Civil Defense leaflets , and organized games and a scavenger hunt. The Patchogue Junior High Chapter assisted in the program b y announcing the speaker and spoke of a regional scrapbook contest Miss Judy Judelson is the South Eastern District A Historian and has charge of the district scrap- book. Sachem District Five To Vote Tomorrow On School Addition HOLBROOK — A total of 55c persons has registered to vote from noon to 10 p. m. tomorrow at Nokom/i s School on a proposal to build an addition to Lynwood Avenue School , Farmingville , and to approve the purchase of one 19G2 station wagon at a cost not to exceed $2 , 500 for Sachem Cen- tral School District 5. The addition of 18 classrooms , a library and a dining room-cafe- teria is proposed at a total cost of $813 , 000. The present school con- tains six classrooms , two kinder- gartens , a gym and administration offices. \State emergency building quota aid , \ said Supervising Principal Walter C. Dunham , \ will cover 98 per cent of the total cost of the original Lynwood Avenue School , which was built at a cost of $450 , 000 in 1955-56 , and the proposed addition. \ He said that the proposal will not increase the tax rate in the split district.
