Seibort' s kindergarten class had an exciting time this week. All the kindergarten classes went on a trip on one school bus to a pump kin farm in East Aloriches. It was a clear , warm day, and all enjoyed traveling together with the teachers. When they arrived . they walked by heaps of large pumpkins , p iles of small ones and into the leld to see the vines of the plants with some flowers still growing. They thought it was wonderful when they heard the teachers say that each pumpkin had grown from a flower . Some- one* said \tliats magic. \ When they returned to school they were giv- en some pretty yellow and green gourd- * to he- 'P them remember the trip. The children learned a song about pumpkins growing in a field. Now they are going to tell the teachers what they enjoyed about the tri p and draw about it too. Billy Il-aaso brought in a little pea horse- and we talked about where it lived and about other sea animals. Since school started in Septem- ber. Grace Whitman ' s grade one has two now pupils. Gary Lohr was transferre d from Now Jersey and Kevin Schmitt from New York City. There are now 29 pupils. Each pupil has started a booklet on \Air Family. '' Some of the il- lustrations are bery interesting. Thov have started eolleting signs of Fall to make charts and pic- tures . In Airs. Foster ' s grade one . Wendy Wood celebrated her sixth birthday Friday b y serving cook- ies to her classmates at lunch time. The class sang \Happy Birthday \ to Wle-ndy and she en- joyed birthday privileges during the day. The class took a nature walk Tuesday to gather fallen leaves. The children then made leaf prints for the Fall Bulletin Board. A wooly bear caterp iller was the star attraction of the tr ip and came back on a leaf to spend the rest of day with the class. Aliss Miller ' s grade two has been very active since returning to school. By cutting out p ictures and mounting them on construc- tion paper the class made picture dictionaries . These will serve well as a reading hel p. Plans for the future include ' a more detailed stud y of the rocks and insects found outside. The class will do a booklet on Thanksgiving. Aliss Brooks grade two of 28 pup ils is really in motion . In reading there are 18 who are* well into the second basic reader* anel three other groups who are work- ing hard. Our arithmetic reviews acconrplishod , we are now doing simple problems , the number na- mes to 20 . and ordinals to 10. They are tryin g to learn when to add and when to subtract in prob- lems. So far , we have taken four weeks spelling words , and some extra ones , like names of Colum- bus ' ships, days of the week and number names. Two hoys , Ral ph Lucano and Andrew Dunn, have been in and out of the hospital. Kenneth Gre- gory and Joseph Patera have new baby brothers . Several birthdays were celebrat- ed with special songs and records. The room has had good care from three sets of monitor's , each set sowing two weeks Thov wore Dominic Alartucci , Loi- Alorelli.
