Suffolk County VFW Auxiliary Holds Meeting The Suffolk County Council Auxiliary of the Veterans of F' or- lgn Wars met at the Jayne-Lat- tin Post hall on Edwards Street , Patchogue , recentl y, Seventeen auxiliaries of the county were rep- resented. On Octobei* 28 , the annual pil- grimage to the Statue of Liberty will take p lace. Mrs. Irene John- son , New York State department president , will attend , and repre- sentatives of many auxiliaries willl join her there. Suffolk County president Mrs. Evelyn Zuckowski , attended the meeting of District 1 , at Elmont , October 1 , and gave a detailed re- port of the meeting. Numerous picnics and ward par- ties were held at the Northport Veterans Hospital and a flower- show was given by the patients during the past month. Orientation and indoctrination of volunteers for hospital work , will take place at Northport today from 2 to 4:30 and 7:30 to 10 p. m. lt was announced that Miss Bet- ty Donnelly and Thomas Cullum will be married at Long Beach November 25. Miss Donnelly is senior vice president of the New York State Department , and Thomas is the son of Mrs. Ann Cullum of East Patchogue , N. Y. State Department musician for the past 25 years. A bridal shower was given for Miss Donnelly at Bellmore last Friday ni ght which was attended by about 100 guests from Suffolk , Nassau , Queens , Brooklyn , Staten Island , New York and Westchester Counties. On Saturdav night , the annual Suffolk County Gold Chevron ball was held at the Deer Park Post Hall. Commander Joseph Goonan , Royal Order of Cooties , was mas- ter of ceremonies. A floor show highlighted the events of the night in addition to the dancing to an orchestra. Set Tests to Fill Two Police Chief Jobs in County RIVERHEAD — Examinations to fill two police chief vacancies for Eastern Suffolk County De- partments will be held November 18, it was announced this week by the County Civil Service Commis- sion. A promotion al examination , limited to qualified members of the East Hampton Town Police Department , will be conducted for the position of police chief. The job pays $7 , 500. At present , William Jacobs , who holds the rank of permanent patrolman , is -holding the position. Ptl . Jacobs was named three years ago , when former Chief H arry Steele retired. The other police chief job open- ing is in Southampton Village , where the pay is $8 , 000. Former State Trooper Lawrence Lambre- cht was named to the position three years ago , after the death of Chief Leland Burnett . The Southampton chief' s ex- amination is open competitive , and is open to any qualified policeman in Suffolk and Nassau Counties. David Zaron , secretary and chief examiner of the Civil Serv- ice Commission , said the reason Southampton was holding an open competitive examination was be- cause Lambrecht was accep ted as a provisional police chief. If the examination was made promo- tional , Lambrecht would not hav e been eligible to take it , Mr. Zaron said. \We felt that there was a moral obligation on our part to allow Lambrecht to tak e the test , so it was made open competitive instead of promotional , \ Mr. Zaron stated. Tuesday, at 7:30 p. m., at Newfield High School , Selden , the Western Suffolk Guidance and Per- sonnel Association will present a panel discussion , \So You Want to Go to College. \ On this panel will be representatives from the State University Colleges of Education , a junior college representative , a representative from a large uni- versity, a representative from a four-year technical college , and a parochial college. The purpose of this program is to assist students and parents in deciding which type of school is the best for them. The panel will be followed by a question and ans- wer period. All parents of college- bound high school students are ur- ged to attend with their children. Wednesday at Newfield Hi gh School , Patchogue Senior Hi gh School juniors and seniors will be able to attend meetings with two specific representatives. Arrange- ments to attend these meetings must be made in advance with the guidance counselors. Patchogue Senior High students will attend meetings from 1 to 2:30 p. m., and must be accompanied by an adult.
