Will Meet at P' chogue Library October 26 October 2G the Great Books Foundation will hold its regular bi-monthly meeting at the Pat- chogue Public Library on Lake Street . August Ditmars who conducted the sessions last year will lead the discussion group for the pres- ent term , which will end in April. The Great Books idea is people come together to talk about a book they have read. However , the group wishes all those who would like to join to come to the library at ei g ht p. m. October 2G even if it is only to listen. The Great Books Foundation fee ' s that scholars differ to some extent, as to exactl y whiich books deserve the hi ghest commendation , and yet there is agreement on the stature of Homer and Sophocles and Plato , of Montaigne , Milton , and Shakespeare and of Goethe , Darwin. To'stoy and Freud , and of manv others . This foundation group feels that no one is obliged to read such works , but that one leaves them unread to his own peril. The group is not a class and the leader is a layman like the others. The Great Books Foundation is an Illinois corporation organized as non-profit in 1 947. Among the books to be read this year are Macbeth The Gosp n l according to St. Matthew and the Communist Manifesto. So far this year the eroup has discussed works by Pl ato and the Declaration of In- dependence. Officers To Be Seated B y Temple Beth-El Men ' s Club Wed.
