With 90 per cent of the crop har- vested at the weekend , it appears that the vast majorit y of the area ' s GOO producers will beat the / rost deadline of November 8-12 , and will be full y prepared to sup- p ly the winter market out of their modern storages . Heavy digging has been going on in cool , crisp weather , ideal both for harv esting and for ' -tor- ing. Late potato eiualit y and bize are excellent , and Long Island will have some very good mer- chandise to sell in the long mar- keting period ahead. Despite r eluctance to ' -ell on a w eak , over-loaded market , Long Island fanners have been meet- ing trade requirements with freshl y-dug stock which cannot be held , in se>me instances because storages are full and in others , because the growers lack holding facilities. Customois are reported pleased with the freshness and general fine qualit y of present of- ferings , the fact that washed stock is readily available , anel also b y the wide range of well packed \ consumers \ . All this may stand the area in good stead later. The dail y movement has been av ei aging around 120 loads , and distribution has widened appreci- abl y, with more shipments going South and West. At the close of business October 23 , 7 , 475 loads had been shippe-d by truck and 168 by rail. Comparable year-ago figures w ere 9 , 711 anel 142. The FOB pi ice the past several days has been $1.30 per cwt. with a bulk price of 90 cents to the glower. Navel Cadets are called \ mid- shipmen \ because in the early British Navy, young men who were going through course of training to become officers were assigned quaiters amidship on lower deck. j SWEZEY FUEL CO., INC. | j!
