FIRE COMPANY At the monthly meeting in Oc- tober the Brookhaven Fire Com- pany reported 39 men present , se- ven as being excused. During the months the men responded to one false alarm. A Fire School was held at the firehouse on \Ventila- tion \ with Chief Kearny as the instructor and it took 12 men 24 hours. There were six drills held on pumping wells , hose equipment and hose relays which took 38 men 68 man hours. The total man hours for the month was 92. They left Friday the 13th , \ which did not hex our va- cation one bit , \ said Mrs. Hornbos- tel. They took the Orient Point Ferry and went to Cambridge to spend the weekend with their son- in-law and daug hter , Dr. and Mrs. Michael Wallach. Dr. Wallach tea- ches psychology at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Mrs. Wallach teaches the same subject at Wellesley College. The Horn- hostels left Cambridge Monday and drove to Marlborough , Vt., where they spent the night. Ac- cording to Mrs. Hornbostel , \the foliage was beautiful. \ The next day they drove to \The Old Ark , \ in Wilming ton , Vt., where they took a housekeeping cottage and stayed the week. On Monday morn- ing they started for home taking the route through Bennington , Vt. Richard Hamroerstrom of Bur- nett Lane returned Saturday from a business trip to Chicago. He left October 25 to attend a conference on pseudomonas infection , which was held at the Argonne National Laboratory, Argonne , 111., a sub- urb of Chicago. While there he visited with friends , Mr. and Mrs. Don Rudd of Oak Lawn , 111. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pearse, for- merly of Beaver Dam Road , moved to Longwood , Fla., early this month . Before they were settled in their new home , Mr. Pearse fell and broke his hip and is hospital- ized in FKLORIDA. Mr. and Mrs. Pearse are the parents of Mrs. Ralph Taylor of Newey Lane. Mrs. John M. Ewing and Mrs. Charles L. Osborne of Mott Lane attended the Workshop in \Prob- le ms of Selecting Children ' s Books \ at the Patchogue Library October 25. The guest speaker was Miss Dorothy M. Broderick , public library children ' s consultant of the Library Extension Division , Al- bany. Herbert Kouts of Stillwoods Road , who is in the Nuclea r En- gineering Department at the Brookh aven National Laboratory, returned Wednesday from a five- week tour of Laboratories in Eur- ope. The trip took him to Oslow , Istanbul , Ankora , Vienna , where he attended a conference and pre- sented a paper. He also went to Verese , Italy and Paris. Mrs. Arthur Kaufman , who re- cently suffered a broken arm is getting along nicely and will con- tinue to convalesce at the home of her son and daughter-in-law , Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kaufmann of Berkley Heights , N. J. Mrs. Kaufmann and her daughter-in- law were overnight guests recently at the home of Mrs. Mark R. Br ' i- ney. The Rev. Richard W. Gray of St. James Episcopal Church an- nounced the congregation has in- stituted a baby sitting service to enable parents ' of pre-church school children to attend the 11 a. m. service together. They can now bring their babies to the parish house , before the 11 a. m. service and leave them with parents from the congregation , who will serve on a rotating basis He also announced the churc h had such a good re- sponse to their sale of Christmas wreaths last year they have deci- ded to sell them again this year. All orders should be placed before mid-November and they will be de- livered about 10 days before Christmas. All proceeds from the sale of these wreath s will go to the church. Earle memorial cases in the Bell port Memorial Library. One of the interesting objects is a round tin container with a whale oil lamp for warming babies ' food. Saturday at the Bell port Memorial Library. Mrs. Harry Bedell , kindergarten teacher at the Kreamer Street Elementary School , will be the first reader. Merrill , rector of Christ Church , Bell port , and three laymen of the church , Joshua W. W. Capen , William Dall and John Conway, all of Bellport , will attend a special convention in the Cathedral House in Garden City Saturday. The convention will be held for the purpose of selecting a second Suffragan bishop. At the annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Long Island last May, the bis- hop cited the need of a second Suf- fragan bishop due to the increas- ing demands upon the time and en- ergy of the present Suffragan , the Right Rev. Jonathan Sherman. Christ Church To Be Represented at Meet Girl Scout Troop 54 of East Patchogue , an eighth grade troop, has been reorganized. It is now under the leadershi p of Mrs. Anne Mac Dougal of South Country Road . Assistant leader is Mrs. Richard M. Woodhull of Durkee Lane. Members of the troop are Mar- line de Reeder , Arlane Frederick , Maureen Garruppo , Peggy Huck , Karen Kreamer , Connie Krebs , Renee Mucci , Joanne Schaefer , Mary Tarantino and Susan Wood- hull. East Patchogue Girl Scout Troop Is Reorganized BELLPORT—The new addi- tion to the Kreamer Street School will be open to the public for inspection at 8 p. m. Wednesday. The addition , with seven self-contained classrooms , an art work room , a music suite and storage facilities , was built and equi pped for $255 , - 000. The total amount of money was provided by the state through its program of aid to fast growing districts. While the school will be pri- marily open for the inspection of the new addition , the entire building will be open to the public for visitation. Holds First Meeting BELLPORT—The first meeting of the Bellport Village Association was held last Thursday nig ht at the Christ Church parish house where members and their guests heard a brief talk by Raymond Batt on the subject of real propert y assessments. Mr. Batt , an attorney, is a Brookhaven Town assessor and serves as a legal consultant to the Brookhaven Industrial and Advis- ory Committee. After his introductory talk , iin which he described the way in which the assessor performs his duties , Mr. Batt answered questions from the audience for the greater part of an hour. The Bell port Village Association concerns itself with the rights and interests of Bell port Village and its residents , an association spokes- man said. \It attempts to keep its members informed on issues which may affect them as resi- dents of the village and as taxpay- ers. It is interested in civic im- provement and it proposes to study matters which may be of benefit to the communit y as a whole , \ the spokesman concluded.
