LEGION DANCE EASTPORT — On Saturday evening American Legion Post 1545 will hold its sixteenth Annual Thanksgiving dance at the Legion hall. Fifteen turkeys will be awarded during the evening. Frey, Victor Kostuk , Mitchell Wilczew- ski , Carl Woronka and Charles Babkiewich. SCHOOL NEWS NATHANIEL WOODHULL Miss Miller ' s grade two has un- dertaken two new projects this week. We have started to use rul- ers and enjoy measuring various objects of everyday use such as pencils , rulers and readers. The class has also begun to draw de- tailed maps of the classroom and school building. These have been done very colorfull y and neatly. Plans for the future include mak- ing a Thanksgiving Day booklet complete with illustrations as well as turkeys constructed from pine cones. Mrs. Carlson ' s grade three good helpers have been Debbie Actis- dano , George Contas , Robert Ri- vera. Paulette Carcione. Vivian Migliara , Linda Bentivegna , Jack Nantista , Evelyn Beere , Dolores Dougherty and Kathleen O'Neill. We have finished our report card tests and will receive our re- port cards November 10. Our class is working hard learn- ing to write in Cursive. Very soon we will be able to write our own names in Cursive. Miss Rafferty ' s grade three has been working hard in all subjects. We have comp leted a successful quarter and are eagerly awaiting report card s this week. The class has been enjoying its bi-weekly art class , taught by Mrs. Runyan. This week they have made lovely pictures of autumn trees , using charcoal sticks for the trunks and branches , and dabs of paint on sponges for the leaves. Our results are decorating the class bulletin board. Class helpers have been Hope Fraser , Grace Guadagnino , Rose- mary Horstman , George Szilagyis, Michaa ' el Tagliamonte and Jack Thorn , whose job of getting milk and returning the emp t y contain- ers to the cafeteria was interfered with by the milk strike. Mrs. Carlson ' s grade three has learned to add two two place num- bers and to add Jong lists of num- bers. John Sussino and George Contas can do it the fastest so far. We have started a make-believe trip to Florida in Social Studies. Kathleen O'Neill has told us a lot about Florida, She lived there be- fore she moved to Mastic Beach. Mrs. Runyan has hung our Trick and Treat paintings in the main hall. This week Mr. Sonnicksen ' s grade three would like to introduce two new members to the class. James Donnallon , who came to us fiom Brooklyn , and Nannette Bouchard , who came to us from Port Washington. In spelling we have been pre- paring for our big review test of 50 words. We also made science foldeis on which we colored an un- derwater picture of shells , seahor- ses and star fish. For our social studies unit we are taking an imag inary trip to Florida b y car. Kathleen Preli , Paula De Rosa and James Zaloga > broug ht in p ictures showing things travelers need. In Mrs. Sonnicksen ' s grade three we listened to records brought in by Joseph Cotone , Linda Furman and James Zologa. Jn arithmetic we have been learning the names of shapes. We made colored designs of squares , triangles, circles and rectang les. The best designs were made by Michael Gilewski , James Donnal- lan , Robin Jardine , Robert Man- ning, Edith Friese , Dennis Fuzie , Joseph Serpia , Kathleen Preli , Linda Furman anl Joseph Cotone. Charles Di Bella brought in a brochure on Washington D. C. since we are visiting the Capital on our \tri p \ to Florida in social studies. Mr. Bentley ' s grade four put on two comedy puppet shows last week. Everyone had a real \ball. \ The cast was : Robert Mc Lauglin , Bruce Murphy, Bob Vosper , Gary Zaloga . Terry Opitz , Ellen Hig- gins , Harriet Cassiliano and Vic- tor Nicotra. The star of the show got al! tang led up in knots and couldn ' t come down to earth. In Miss Ellrich' s grade four Carolyn Sabetelli. Milagros Zayas , Walter Van Lith and Robert Wfetll gave excellent oral reports. In language arts we are learn- ing how to write invitations. Everyone wrote one to his parents for open-house. Our special project for Thanks- giving will be making p lace cards fiom Autumn leaves. They can be used to decorate the dinner table. Class hel pers for the week were Catherine Kenny and Robert Cruikshank. We had class elections in Mr. Rugg ' s grade six , and our Presi- dent is Carmine Nataro , our Vice President is Raymond Deedine , Secretary is Jan Rogoyski . and Treasurer is Kenny Lake. We p layed Mr. Potamos ' s class in basketball and won by one foul-shot , 18 - 17. On Friday we are getting report cards. There are 1G boys and g irls on the honor roll.
