EASTPORT NEWS ITEMS Remsenburg and Speonk Willis B. Tuthill DIVINITY STUDENT Five y ears ago , a Bruce Jayne was working on his dairy farm in Remsenburg with every pi^ospect oi continuing to till the soil , help care for 25 odd head of stock and live the life of a countr y farmer. But something came along to change his plans. Tw enty-nrne years of age at the time , a graduate of high school and with a hitch with the United States Occupational Forces in Germany behind him , he began to think seriously of the years ahead. After considerable thought he di- cided to stud y for the ministry, encouraged by his pastor and by his offices as ruling elder , Sunday school superintendent and teacher in his church. Now , almost six years later , he •s well along- in his studies at Dubuque Theological Seminary in Iowa , where he is preparing for the gospel ministry. While at Alma College , Alma , Mich., from which he graduated last year with honors , he helped out with his educational expenses by working as an attendant and nurse at Alma ' s Mason.c Hosp ital , combining his duties there with college studies which left little time for vacations. Besides , he did some choir work and filled pulp its as a supply, one church being 80 miles from Alma , to which he went each Sunday by car. At Dubuque , where he is pre- paring for his final ordination and acceptance as a Presbyterian min- ister , he is doing work in the classical languages , in Greek , Latin and Hebrew with marks of 95. Remsenburg Church , his neig h- bors and friends are watching his progress with interest and pride , as he is the first one as far as records go , to take up the study of the ministry from the Remsenburg church , founded in 1853. A romance which had its be- ginning in college culminates in marriage when Mr. Jayne takes as his bride , Miss Joan Elizabeth Haslett , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Haslett , of Detroit , at a wedding ceremony which will take place at the Glendale Presby- terian Church , Detroit , December 1C.
