Pressed b y Superintendent of Highways Charles \V7 Rarraud to answei win ther the board would go ahead w ith its plan on which the contiact has been si gned . Supervisor August Stout , Jr., said \1 can ' t give an answ er at this time. \ Mr. Stout said he referred the association ' s dee 1 -ion to the boaid' s insuranc e committee for i in ther stud;, . On November 21 the town boaid authorized a gioup insurance plan loi tow n emphn eos covoiiug hospi- tal , suigical and majoi medical sei vices.. The tow n wil pay 50 per cent and the employe will pay 50 per vent of the premium. A de- posit premium of $(i , 000 was, ati - thoi W.ed November 21 to put the plan into effect. He expres- sed appreciation for the efforts made by the town board on the insurance question , but said his men \ resent being * told what plan to take. \ \There are two sides to this discussion , \ said Mr. Stout, \We have an obligation to renr^sent g—¦—aawaraaap —a^ main naj—Bacwtg ni—i n iiwai—aaaa people paying the other half of the tab. We fee! we have the best p lan after study ing- the plans of six other companies . \ Asked what was \ wrong \ with the state plan , Mr. Stout said \ nothing* was wrong* with it\ and continued, that the board believes its contract with Equitable Assuran- ce Company is more economical than the program o ffered by Blue Cross and Blue Shield. He noted that the county board of super- visoi s has examined 11 companies ' p lans on group insurance. Last Thursday representatives of the board exp lained its group insur- ance plan to the highway men in a meeting in Medford. Mr. Valder wrote in his letter- to the board , \A vote was taken oi the members on the two in- surance plans submitted. The sta- te-wide p lan won by a unanimous majorit y. We hope you can see \ our way clear at this time to pay the one-third on our stat e - wide plan. \ Highway Quarters On the motion of Councilman Frank Coveney the board authori- zed up to $. '5 , 000 for the establish- ment of an office for highway de- partment men on the North Shore. A 20 by 24 foot building will be moved from its present location at Chestnut Street and Route 25A , Mt. Smai to a site pui chased for highway purposes on North Coun- tiy Koad , Poi t Jefferson Station. Mr. Barraud , who recommended the action , said the building * is completely finished on the inside including - electrical winng\ . The purchase price of the building was p laced at , *t> 2 , 000 and the dit leience will cover legal fees and movinii and construction costs Attorney George l aylor of East Setauket was appointed to nego- tiate the purchase. Omnibus Line On the recommendation of the Public Sen HO Commission the boai d granted pei mission to Util- itv Lines , Inc., bus service , of Patchogue, to opeiate a temporary omnibus line from December 27 to June 2 > , 19<i2 m the Selden-Cen tereach area on Mark Tree Road between Middle Country Road and Tiee Road ; on Tree Road be tw een Mark Tree Road and Haw- kins Path and on Ha wkins Path bi tween Tree Road and Mark Tree Road. The PSC wrote there is \ an urgent need\ for the service and asked that \ authorit y be granted w ithout a hearing. \ Compensation Sums On the recommendation of Pat- chogue Attorney George E. Lech- trecker the town board voted to set aside sums of money that will be used to compensate owners of pi operty at the mouth of Swan River , East Patchogue , which th** - town is in the process of acquir- ing* to construct a town park . The resolution stated the action was being taken to \ minimize the amount of interest accruing as of the date of vesting title \ of the lands to the town. The amounts are \60 per cent of the amount estimated\ (by Rheta M. Thomas , appraiser) as compensa- tion for the property ow ners. The re solution stated that $15 , .
