Historic Church Restored , Ready for Christmas Eve BROOKHAVEN — The Old^.Charles South Haven Presbyterian Churc h on the corner of South Country and Beaver Dam Roads , Brook- haven , will hold its first worship service since restoration , Sunday morning at 11 a. m. A Candlelight Christmas Eve Service will follow at 11 p. m. The public is cordially invited to attend. All visitors to the church Sun- day and in the future will be pre- sented with a small booklet detail- ing the history of the Old South Haven Church since its founding in 1740. The booklet will relate the circumstances of founding, tell of some of the earliest leaders in- cluding General William Floyd , signer of the Declaration of Inde- pendence . General Nathanie l Woodhull , Judge William Smith , Col. Josiah Smith , and Senator Dani°l Webster frequent visitor to the church. On display will be several articles of historical inter- est relating to the local Presby- terian congregation. At the 11 a. m. service the Rev. A. Kellogg will preach a brief sermon , \The Christmas Star. \ An anthem duet , \The Noel of the Bressan Waits , \ will be sung by Mrs. Ernest Sykes and Mr v s. Charles Kellogg. The child- ren ' s choir will sing \The Cherry Tree Carol , \ an Eng lish folksong especially arranged for the child- ren by Mr. and Mrs. William Bon- yun of Heirloom Recording Stu- dios. Brookhaven. The church or- ganist , Mrs. Dorothy Conklin Rate , will play a large selection of traditional Christmas music on the pipe organ. The Christmas Eve Service at 11 p. m., will also feature organ music and an anthem duet , with the minister reading a Christmas story, \The Beasts of the Fields \ by Jules Lemaitre. The congrega- tion will sing many favorite carols and participate in the lighting of Christmas candles. For this eve- ning service the church will be il- luminated only by the new colon- ial chandelier installed last week. Ori g. Golden Agers Honor Waegelins on j 57th Anniversary BELLPORT — Mr. and Mrs. Charles Waegelm of 30 Circuit Road , Bell port , celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary last Thursday. They were married in Windfield , December 14 , 1904 , and two month s later moved to Manorville , birth- place of Mr. Waegelin. Shortly after this they took up residence in Brookhaven and then Bell port. They have been actively interest- ed in many p hases of the com- munity ' s cultural and civic life. John goes to the usual meeting of the students of the month where he tells of the school activities. Under the direction of Bellport High School' s three librarians , Mrs. Keeler , Mrs. Hatch and Mrs. Bowman , the Library Olub had its annual Chicken Dinner December 11. Twenty-seven members met in the school auditorium to enjoy the candlelight dinner. Bellport Hi gh School' s Girls ' Volleyball Intramurals are now of- ficially over , with the Chestnuts , captain Cheryl Ridgeway, emer- ging as victors with a score of ei gm wins and two losses. News of the Churches BELLPORT—By a unanimous vote the Bellport Village Board denied the request for a change of zone from \Residence D\ to \Busi- ness E\ filed by Conrad B. and Florabell e Van Alen , after a public hearing in the community center last Thursday ni g ht , attended by about a dozen residents. Attorney Sanford Davidow re- presented the petitioners and ex- plained that they wanted to move their business office to another part of their property and provide for the parking of passenger cars and wanted no longer to run trucks along a private driveway. Trusiee Rowland F. Smith read a letter from the village planning board which recommended that the change be denied , and Mayor Har- ry F. Bedell announced that the village board had received a pet- ition of opposition bearing 112 names. Those who expressed their disapproval of the change of zone were Mr. and Mrs. George Coon and Walter Gould , nearb y neigh- bors , Edward der Mateosian . re- presenting the Bellport Village Association , Mrs. Emery L. BELLPORT— A Christmas pro- gram was presented at the Kream- er Street School on Tuesday morn- ing and yesterday afternoon by the students of the fourth , fifth and sixth grades. Their final perfor- mance will be held thi s morning. The first part of the progra m is a dramatization of a Christmas story entitled , \The Littl e Star , \ directed by Miss Gertrude Sanford. Part II consists of the singing of eight Christmas carols by a special choir chosen from these grades. It is under the direction of Donald F. Brinton. * Parents and friends are invited to attend. Christmas Program At Kreamer Today BELLPORT — Suffolk County Sheriff Charles R. Dominy, super- visor-elect of Brookhaven Town- ship, was a guest at the latest meeting of the Bellport Manor Taxpayers Association , together with Edwin A. Arnzen , newly- elected town clerk. The taxpayers ' group requested Mr. Dominy ' s and the incoming town board ' s cooperation in ob- taining a kiddy play area. Mr. Dominy promised to form a com- mittee of several town councilmen to work with a similar group from Bellport Manor to help formulate more concrete plans for the play area. The association is holding a Christmas decoration contest for homes in the area. Homeowners mjay enter the contest by sending a post card marked Christmas Decoration Contest to the Bellport Mpnor Taxpayers ' Association , P.O. Box 691 , Bellport , N. Y. En- tries must be received by today. Winners will be notified Sunday and the awards will be made at the regular meeting January 9.
