High School Highlights PATCHOGUE SENIOR HIGH The Hi-Y Club of Patehogue High School has such a large membershi p that it has divided into two groups. This will be much more com enient since the Hi-Y chilis in Suffolk County can now h a \ e a council. Southamp ton , Smithtown , Bellpoi t and Pateh- ogue ean now join in the various activities and programs. The officers which were elected for tin- new chapter are : presi- dent. Vicki Natale; vice president , Judy Cook; secretary, Andria Mi- naidi; tieastirer , (\ race Dahlman; chap lain , Anita Katusha. These officer- will act as the alternates to aid the present officers: presi- dent. Lourdes Diaz; vice president . Fiances Branch ; secretary. Suz- anne Meyer; treasurer , Barbara \ ienato; chaplain , Linda Fourney. The club sold nuts and bolts and Christmas corsages. The corsages were made by the girls. They w ere candy canes, angel p ins and bell corsages. The club will also help the Y M C A sell candy for a charitable cause. The club has had two speakers as pait of their program : Miss Mary Billington , a physical educa- tion teacher at the high school , who spoke about her trip to Eur- ope and M ; ss Keiger. who told the girls about vjtal beauty hints. The members are now ready to plan for a fashion show. The girls have been trying to make their club a success , with the help of their advisor , Mrs. Charlotte Record. Their motto is: \To Create , Extend and Maintain Throughout The Home, School , And Community Hi g h Standards of Christian character. \ Nancy Lee Batey and Nancy Bren\l prepared the Christmas bulletin boaid in Mrs. Louise Mul- ler ' s room. Doris Skippon , Violet Eicholz . Susan Lewis , Helen Doka , Camille Fagone , Ann Ardalina , Kathleen Hayes and Barbara Cas- sino are the girls from the Short hand II class whose shorthand out- lines were used on the Christmas packages displayed on the bulletin board. The Thelma Temple Chapter of the Future Teachers of America Club is carrying out new and in- teresting projects this year. The members of this club have enjoyed some very stimulating meetings thus far this year. The most inspiring talk to date was one by Mrs. Fred Mutschler . for- merly a teacher at River Avenue School. Patehogue. Mrs. Mutschler related many of her classroom ex- periences. Her discussion was very well received by the entire club. A panel discussion was planned by the club' s president , Susan Fiiedlander , and vice president , Barbara Girschoff. The members of this panel are the following high school teachers , Paul Casper , Mis- , Mary Billington. Arnold Gile and Ian Ogilvie. The topic to be discussed is a comparison between the European and American edu- cational systems. Another interesting project plan- ned is an opinion poll to be ga th - ered from the entire student body. The question to be resea rched is how does the high school student \alue his education ? In addition to keeping a perfect treasury record. Ginger Lowe, the club' s treasurer , also functions as a purchasing agent. She has re- centl y ordered a banner with the club' s name inscribed on it , and Future Teachers of America pins for those members who desire to purchase them. The duties of the secretary are ably performed by Susan Ashare. Arthur Warren , the club' s advisor, has guided its activities. Robert Lee ' s world history clas- ses used the facilities of the li- brary last week in learning- stan- dard research techniques. Bio- grap hical tools were used to look up lives of famous men. Geograp h- ical tools such as historical atlas- sc s were also used. The Advanced Math Club , under the direction of advisor Delphus Dixon and student , Le-lie Boden , are currently studying derivations and integrals. Members of the group include April Pattervan, president; Elwyn Schaefer , vice president; Jane Spavins , secretary- treasurer; and members , Carl Palatnik, Bill Harris and Georg-e Masin. Seniors hav e al- ready received the finished proofs of their pictures which will go in- to the yearbook. The remaining clubs and sports pictures will be taken when the students return from Christmas vacation. The sop homore class sponsored a victory dance after the recent Patchogu e-Sayville basketball games. Dianne Stein and Carol Waldbauer sold tickets at the door and music was provided by the juke box. Richard Rein , Richard Giannotti , Jerry Felice , and Jeff Kreisberg set up and sold refresh- ments. The dance , which was held in the gym , ended at 11:30 p. m. The proceeds from this dance will help defray the costs for the senior prom which will be held in the Spring. The choral group under the di- rection of Eugene Romeo partici- pated in the annual Christmas as- sembly December 22 in the audi- torium. Among the numbers per- formed by the male glee club were \Adoramus Te \ by Palestrina and Berlin ' s \White Christmas. \ The girls ' glee club sang \O Holy Night , \ \What Child is This \ and \The Lord' s Prayer. \ Among the mixed choir selections were \Glor- ia in Excelsia Deo \ and \Allel- ulia. \ Under the direction of Joel Sands the band p layed \Three Songs for Christmas , \ and \Ber- cuse. \ T h e or ch estra , un d er t h e direction of Raymond Lysak , per- formed \Christmas Suite , \ \Win- ter Wonderland\ and \Sleigh Ride . \ ff * * The current activity of the French club , under the supervision of Mrs. Vivian Van Dien , advisor , and student president , Richard Prybyzerski , was the selling of stationery and French note cards. This sale has been going on for nearly two month s in which mem- bers of the club , by selling the cards and stationery, successfully spread French culture. The note cards , with paintings of vaidous famous French landmarks , were a , great success with the faculty. The French Club also saw a recent movie on the Chartres Cathedral . * * * The varsit y cheerleading squad is now learning new cheers which Linda Lang and Ginger Lowe l earned while attending the Cheer- leadin g Clinic at Spring-field Col- lege this past Summer. The junior varsity squad , captained by Robbip Calderwood. have a new mascot , Judy Marolina. It has recently been announced that the junior prom for the class of 19,63 will take place February 3 , 1962. The dance will be held from 9 p. m. until 1 a. m. at Patehogue Senior High School. The Future Homemakers Club this year had to be divided into A and B sections because of the number of students joining the club. The clubs jointly chose as their local project for the year to bring Christmas to the older folks. They selected the Pine Rest Nursing Home. Linda Hubel , chairman of wel- fa re committee , went to the home to see what they could do. She came back to the club with the idea of purchasing an artificial tree plus decorations and a small gift for each one at the home , plus decorations for the dinner table. Joyce Perry, Kristine Finken , Jackie Schlomschug, Virginia Sch- iatta and Alice Perrier were in charge of decorating the tree. All of the club members drew a name for the gifts. Joan Haab , Carol Von Rhee , Shirley Berkowitz , Beverl y Mey- ers , Lana Herman , Kristine Fin- ken , Betty Hortsman and Mary Di Giglio-made the table decorations. The club members felt they had kept the true meaning of Christ- mas by g-iving a little of them- selves to others. Mrs. Katherine Warner is advisor of the two clubs. \p -ws collected Hv Pan!
