GOP Administ ration Sworn In: Dominy Becomes Tow n Super. fTown Board Is i Split 4-to-3; Name Appointees The Brookhaven Town Board' s \ new look ' was very much in evidence on Tuesday when the town board held its organization meeting in the board' s meet- ing room in town hall , Pat- chogue , under the gavel of newl y - installed Supervisor Charles R. Dominy. Congen- iality prevailed , as both sides of the political fence p ledged themselves to the establish- ment of good , sound gov- ernment. Wieldin g the gavel at 11 a. in.. Su p er v isor D o mi ny , a Republican , presided over the well-organized meeting which saw numerous ap- pointments made , bunks designat- ed as depositories , newspapers named as offi c i a l p a p e r s , the us- ual highway department resolu- ti o ns , petty cash accounts , public offi c ials ' bonds acce pted , and s al- ar ies fixed. Roll call found ever yone pres- ent—the thre e Republican council- men bei ng George Fuchs. Clarence Hough and Davi d Weissbergor; th e three Democrat counc-ilmen be- in g Frank Covene y , J o h n Fol ey and Howard Rowland , a-d Super- visor Dom iny. Opposition was re- gistered o/ily occasionally. During the two-hour special meeting, Edwin A. Arnzen was ap- p oint e d r eg ist r a r of vit a l stat i sti c s and Percy B. Raynor was appoint- ed de puty registrar of vital statis- tics. T own Clerk Arnzen had pre- viously appointed Mr. Raynor as deputy town clerk. It was on this resoluti o n that th e bo ar d had i ts first and only close vote , being strictl y on party lines. Supervisor Dominy was appoint- ed town welfare officer. Sloane Appointed Well-known for his experience in matters of governmental proced- ure , Samuel I. Sloane of Patchogue was retained to consult with and advise the supervisor , town clerk , superintendent of highways and town board members in connection with the procedures and resolutions to be offered at the organization meetings of the Town Board and all matters related thereto , passing on le gality of bonds of public of- ficials. Cromarty as board chairman and the reappointment of Westhampton D emocra t George W. Percy, Jr., as c o unt y attorne y went th r ou g h without difficulty. A fter County Executive H. Lee Dennison ' s annual report was r e ad to the s u p ervi so rs , Mr. Cromarty, who is county Republi- can chairman , was named board chairman b y his fellow board super- visors. Only Shelter Island Super- visor Evans Griffing voted against M r. Cromarty ' s appointment , stat- ing \It is a matter of princip le and not personal. \ Mr. Griffing had ur ged the selection of South- ampton ' s veteran supervisor , Step- he n F. Meschutt , as chairman. Previousl y, the board chairman selected had been the senior su- pervisor of the majority. M r. Dennison later said: \I mu st take the stand of not ap- p r ov in g of a c ount y le a der bein g a supervisor or being chairman of a count y board. Lee Dennison , in hi s a nnu a l repoit to the Suffolk Board of Supervisors yesterday outlined the accomplishments of his administration for the past two years , high- lighting pi ogress on civil service , count y budgets , communit y colle g e , pay laises fur county employes , and county planning. The governor , as of Tuesday Continued on pa ge 6 , this section Weekend Auto Accidents Fatal To 4 in B'haven Tlie airaignment of Fiank Otto Schreiner , 22, of Faim-to-Market Road , M edfoid, was adjourned Tuesday until January 22 by Biookhaven Town Justice of the Pl ace Anthony Salv atoie . Sixth Precinct police Monday charged Schreiner with driving while intoxicated , lea v in g the scene of an accident , and d r i v in g without an operator ' s license , f ol- lowing a tw o-car accident in which a five-year-old Bellport g irl was fatall y injured in Medford. The- .justice said bail was set at $500 for each of the two first counts and ¥100 for the last count. The defendant was he l d i n li e u of bail. According to police Schreiner returned about one-half hour later to the scene of the accident to see if anyone had been injured and was arrested b y the investigating officer. Patrolman Frank Smimmo. The justice said the arraign- ment was ad journed to await the findings of a blood test. Depending upon the finding of the te~: t , the defendant may be charged with drunken riming or driving while his ability was impaired by alco- hol , the justice added.
