Brookh ave n schoo l taxes rise b y 7% Taxes in Brookhaven ' s 22 school districts will be going up a total of more than $9.5 million , to $141 , 367 , 623.65 , acc ording to Tax Receiver Paul Gelinas. Mr. Gelinas announced receipt of the 1978-79 tax warrant totalling $227 , 596 , 580 . 52 , an in- crea se of $18 ,547 , 371.56 over the 1977-78 warrant. The biggest jumps came in school districts in the eastern portion of the town that send students to other districts on a tuition basi s The tax rate in Southaven jumped 15 391 per cen t , from $28 165 to $32.50 per $100 of assessed valuation while the rate in West Manor increased from $20 , 064 to $22 ,982 per $100 , or 14.543 per cent . Center Moriches recorded only a .145 per cent increase with the tax rate going from $33,102 to $33,150 per $100 . No district in the Long Island Advance circulation area showed a decrease. Paying the highest tax rate , $41,307 per $100 , will be residents of the Brookhaven portion of the Bayport-Blue Point School District Next is Middle Country with a rate of $41 081 per $100 The greatest decrease was recorded in the Great South Bea ch area which takes in por - tions of Fire Island in Brookhaven and Ishp There , the rate went from 3.442 per $100 to 2 657 per $100 , a decrease of 22.086 per cent. Other districts showing decreases were Port Jeffer son Station-Terryville and Shoreham-Wading River . In Patchogue-Medford , the 1978-79 combined library-school tax of $32 45 per $100 of assessed valuation is 27 cents higher than the predicted rate According to school district officials , the difference due to growth in assessed value fell below expected levels This was representative of several area districts All school district tax rates include the library tax where app licable. The town serves as the collecting agency for special and school districts and for the county. It' s a familiar dialogue repeated daily all over the country The difference here is that the ' patrolman ' is five foot four , weights 110 lbs , is blond and blue-eyed and her name is Jody Giiman Jody is one of two women-Tern Garrett is the other - who are members of Patchogue ' s Volunteer Auxiliary Police k Since her husband , Bob Giiman , took over respon- sibility for the auxiliaries in July of this year mem- bership has increased , according to Patchogue Mayor James E Reese , about 50 per cent They now number 20 strong and have the distinction of having two women among them Says Mayor Reese , \The auxiliaries act as a very efficien t ex t ension of the Suffol k County Police Department Under the administration of Bob Giiman we ' ve seen a substantial increase in their ranks and I think that is due , in large part , to Bob' s leadership and his commitment to the auxiliaries \I am very happy with what he ' s done , \ continued the mayor , \ and a cooperative attitude is apparent between them and the Fifth Precinct \ This was attested to by Sgt John J Horan of the Fifth who termed the work of the auxiliaries as \fantabulous '\ \It leaves police work to the police , \ said Horan , \ since the auxiliaries work not only as extra eyes and ears , they also handle parade assignments and traffic control during village events attracting lai ge numbers of people and cars \ Merchants in the village are also pleased with the ' visibility ' of these auxiliaries Said Abe Siegel of Blum ' s , \I' ve seen the car and having it traveling around is a grea t deterren t \ (continued on page SO) „ ¦¦ ¦¦ miiiMiwi ir *
